PS2 Online - Did you ever play?

I remember that, in the early years of the PS2, I came so close to buying an online adapter and playing. I had Timesplitters 2, which was the game that I would have spent most time on. I never got round to it, though, and I'm wondering whether I missed an opportunity, given the amount of online gaming that I do now.

Did any of you ever play online, or see anybody else playing?

I never did and I don't know of anyone who did. I was considering doing it with THUG where you could get your face into the game but never did.

I bought it after the 2K5 games came out to play online with my friends. We wanted to start an online season but it never worked out Ended up using it maybe 5 times to play and get the extra camo in MGS3. Sold it at a good price less then a year later.

Everything about PS2 online was ****ty except that somehow they managed to do something right with SOCOM (although it was still buggy as hell and still didn't work quite right), you really didn't miss out.

Xbox live was the first truly successful online gaming application out there (on consoles, although Microsoft had experience with it already. Remember ZONE on PC?? Multiplayer lobbies for tons of PC games back in the day.), it completely blew away everything the PS2 was doing.

I played Socom very, very briefly when I owned a PS2 in America. My parents had a house in Florida, and one summer I bought a PS2 over there with Socom and got it online. I maybe played about half an hour. That's it, though. I really don't think even Sony believed in the online service that the PS2 offered. It was just really not very good.

I played Socom (or maybe it was Socom II; I liked that desert level). I actually really enjoyed it, but obviously the current online experience is much better.

So, essentially, nobody has any experience of anything but SOCOM?

I think that's the general message that's coming through.

Can you imagine playing an online game with 11 other people that only have a 56k connection? Because PS2 didn't require broadband.

Ha! yeah, people bitch about lag on COD, think about lag then... You'd be camping a room with a single door in the corner behind a half-wall of concrete just to be killed and realize the person came in, walked about for a while, threw 2 grenades, and shot 2 entire clips and you didn't see any of it.

I honestly can't remember there being too much lag, but then again, I didn't remember how laggy some N64 games were until I went back and played them recently.
