Was the 3D experiment a success?

You can say what you like about the 3D technology. Some people hate it for movies, and rightfully so in a lot of cases, but I was both surprised and impressed the first time that I saw a 3DS.

In my opinion, they should definitely continue with it. The dual-screens of the DS worked well when they introduced them, too, and, as with their consoles, I don't see Nintendo as competition for Sony, Microsoft, etc. as they're just so different.

Most people I know that own a 3DS turn the 3D off to play most games. So no, I don't think it was successful. Although I can't say that it isn't interesting. It's the first glasses-free 3-D that actually works... somewhat...

Well speaking as a 3DS owner I have to say I keep mine on, not all the way up but it's on whenever I play OoT or Super Mario 3D land. That being said I usually play virtual console games on my 3DS so meh.

I'd say it was definitely successful, but not really necessary. 3D is 3D. Sure it's cool, but the games are still going to be fun without it.

I have my 3D all the way up at all times just because it enhances the games. Unless it gives the person a headache or something, it's just kind of stupid to turn it off.

In the same way that the touch screen function is a vital component to relatively few good DS games, I really don't think the 3D function of the 3DS has shown anything so far to mark it out as anything other than a gimmick.

3D is a fad that sweeps through so many things when really it isn't necessary.

*waiting for virtual reality where you actually experience games and move your person around the the world rather than controlling an avatar*

^^That would be REAL innovation

I suppose that Kinect isn't TOO far off.

I think it's a step in the right direction at any rate. Not to mention the technology behind kinect is fascinating. Speech recognition, facial recognition, true movement tracking (rather than the garbage Wii/PSmove pass off as motion detection)...

That one isn't even close to being on topic.
