NPD Hardware numbers for December 2011 are in...
And they aren't pretty guys.
Xbox 360: Over 1.7 Million (-8.6%) [Best selling platform for the full year.] Wii: 1.06 Million (-55%) PS3: ~936K (-22.6%) [Math from 46% of console sales are Xbox 360 and above numbers.] All consoles dropped from last year with 360 having the least drop. Wii had the worst drop in percentage, but still managed to be ahead of PS3. PS3 had a sizable drop, but still got close to 1 million. Both 360 and PS3 need to drop price to $150. These are 2010's numbers NDS – 2,500,000 Wii – 2,360,000 360 – 1,860,000 PS3 – 1,210,000 |

Not so bad. You guys have to remember we just entered 6th year for Wii and PS3 and the 7th year for 360. We are consistently seeing 3 consoles selling 900+K during the holiday season? Have we ever seen this in any other gen?

I really don't mind the supposed 10 year lifespan of this gen though, saves us all a couple bucks.

I prefer a 5 year cycle. Money isn't really a big concern for me, the PS3 and 360 are starting to feel extremely dated. The only reason I really play either them anymore is because my friends are either too "poor" to buy a decent PC, or they're Appletards.

I feel the opposite. I'm not at all bored of my 360, and as long as quality games keep coming out, then I have no problem sticking with 360.

I just don't understand why people would rather buy a system that's backbone is rereleased N64 games, rather than a system with the vast majority being completely new titles/experiences.

The 3DS will have a better library, I don't have any doubts about it. And even if they've released a couple N64 games, (literally a couple, how this makes a backbone I don't know,) they're quality games. I'm not too sure why people think the 3DS will never get any new games. It was the same when the DS launched too :\ |
