NPD Hardware numbers for December 2011 are in...

And they aren't pretty guys.

Xbox 360: Over 1.7 Million (-8.6%) [Best selling platform for the full year.]
Wii: 1.06 Million (-55%)
PS3: ~936K (-22.6%) [Math from 46% of console sales are Xbox 360 and above numbers.]

All consoles dropped from last year with 360 having the least drop. Wii had the worst drop in percentage, but still managed to be ahead of PS3. PS3 had a sizable drop, but still got close to 1 million. Both 360 and PS3 need to drop price to $150.

These are 2010's numbers

NDS 2,500,000
Wii 2,360,000
360 1,860,000
PS3 1,210,000

Not so bad. You guys have to remember we just entered 6th year for Wii and PS3 and the 7th year for 360. We are consistently seeing 3 consoles selling 900+K during the holiday season? Have we ever seen this in any other gen?

That's true, the industry is definitely healthier than it has ever been.

No, because usually we'd have new consoles by now

I really don't mind the supposed 10 year lifespan of this gen though, saves us all a couple bucks.

I prefer a 5 year cycle. Money isn't really a big concern for me, the PS3 and 360 are starting to feel extremely dated. The only reason I really play either them anymore is because my friends are either too "poor" to buy a decent PC, or they're Appletards.

I feel the opposite. I'm not at all bored of my 360, and as long as quality games keep coming out, then I have no problem sticking with 360.

The guys supporting 3DS is talking about dated hardware.

3DS is dated...when you compare it with the Vita. Not that it'll matter much, the 3DS is going to crush the Vita.

I just don't understand why people would rather buy a system that's backbone is rereleased N64 games, rather than a system with the vast majority being completely new titles/experiences.

You mean the one with original titles like Uncharted and Wipeout!? Yeah, they're really breaking the mold over there at Sony.

The 3DS will have a better library, I don't have any doubts about it. And even if they've released a couple N64 games, (literally a couple, how this makes a backbone I don't know,) they're quality games.

I'm not too sure why people think the 3DS will never get any new games. It was the same when the DS launched too :\

Nintendo are still one of the finest games developers on the planet, and the only way that you can play their software is to cough up for their hardware. Even though the Wii was similar to the N64 and the Gamecube in the sense that the great games were few and far between, it was still worth the purchase, in my opinion, for the smattering of absolutely stellar Nintendo-developed titles that were (eventually) released. The DS had a stunning amount of must-play gems, and I'm pretty sure that the same will be true for the 3DS. I do massively regret buying the damn thing on Day 3, though, for a thoroughly ridiculous 200. That was ****ing stupid.

Meh, I got my free games, some of which aren't available on the eshop yet, so I'm satisfied.

True, I only paid $250, which is considerably less obviously, but my point still stands
