KI Gold not working

Ok I have a weird issue that I have tried to find info on and I can't. I had a copy of KI Gold. Bought it new way back when. It would not work all of a sudden a few years ago. I thought it was the new jumper pack needing to be removed. Well still would not work with the old one. Then I track down another copy of the game and the same thing! What in the world is going on? My other games play just fine!

Are you trying to play games with no Jumper pak in the system? That's not going to work.

Have you tried other games besides Killer Instinct Gold and do they work?

Oh yeah...KI gold won't boot up if you have a rumble pak plugged into the controller. Since the rumble pak came out a while after KI gold did, the game tries to read it like a memory card and freezes on a blank screen.
