But seriously, both of the times my system did it it was totally out of the blue. You will just be playing along like everything is normal and then, for me at least, the screen will go a checkerboard red, green, and blue pattern.

It just happened to me recently with zero symptoms at all. My 360 was working fine...and then I went to turn it on about a week ago and BAM...pwnd.

Dont confuse the RRoD with the other red ring. Only 3 lights will light up if its dead (the 1,2, and 4 places if i remember correctly), if all 4 are red, there is a noncritical problem like your video cable isn't plugged in properly (happened to me.)

RRoD is 1, 2, and 3. Overheat is 1 and 3.
Make sure you read the code while the 360 is standing up, clockwise from the upper left.

The site says otherwise when I try to send it for repairs, it's not even 2 years old anyways. Since the site doesn't want to fully comply with me I haven't sent it for repairs or make the moves to do so. Actually I'm not sure about sending it, I was planning on buying a new 60GB hard drive for it, so I might be better off with a new console instead. Still thinking about it.

The E74 Error is supposed to be covered. I'd give Xbox support a call (yeah I know it's a pain in the ass, but the repair is supposed to be free.)

If it does turn out to be free...just send it in and get a "loaner" from wal-mart.

I'll call them since the website just doesn't want to fully work when I try to ask for a repair. Stupid MS and websites.
