Demon's Souls.

Can we say RPG of the Year? Of the past two to three years maybe? With the exception of Fallout 3, there is no RPG I've played recently that I've dedicated this much time in. The game is a "hardcore gamer's" dream. The difficulty is challenging, but not unfair, the game is innovative in a number of ways, first and foremost the online mode. I can't really express how great this game is, that's what reviews are for, but I highly recommend it. Anyone else gotten it and have any fun stories to tell?

Playing as a Black Phantom is uber fun.

I bought the Deluxe Edition off of Ebay yesterday so it should be here in a week or less. I was told that you can't be a Black Phantom until late game so how far in are you?

I have been waiting for this game for so long.

Now, that it's finally out.. I don't have the spare cash to buy it.

I've pretty much been waiting for it since it was announced. Luckily I was reserving cash for this or MW2, this won.

It's not that far, it just depends on how you play. You can get the stone to be a Black Phantom in the the first area of the third world. You can play the worlds in pretty much any order(though I suggest not doing the third world first. Man is it difficult.) Also, there are other places you can get them. You have to defeat an NPC Black Phantom to get the Black Eye Stone.

This game really did come out at the worst possible time. I've enjoyed it a lot, cleared up through 2-1 plus doing some odd things in other worlds without completing them, but then Brutal Legend and Uncharted 2 just had to come out this week. Now I'm going to play those, and have to regain my skill at this game once I have time for it again

My money situation makes it impossible for any other game to distract me till December so I'm good.

Fortunately I'm not particulrly crazy for Uncharted 2 or Brutal Legend, so this game will be plenty to keep me going for a while. Next week is SvR10 but that won't take too much of my time. I will probably eventually get Uncharted, but I'm not running out to get it. The only game I'm really salivating over is Assassin's Creed II, and Demon's Souls can easily fill the gap between then and now(and then some.)

Now as for the Black Phantoms, is the item you use to become one expendable and then you have to search for more? Or is it an item that you can use over and over again?

You can use the item over and over once you get it. I've only gotten invaded one time, it's pretty exhilarating.

I was tracking it for a while but I just decided I can't get it. I'm not a hardcore gamer and I hardly have time to play through Uncharted 2 in probably two-three weeks so this one is just out of the question. Dozens of hours and many deaths is something I just can't do right now.

It's a shame too since it is getting such awesome reviews. The only 30+ hour games I am really looking at in the coming year is GT5 and FF13...

I was wondering if I should get this game. Can someone please tell me stuff like difficulty, Is it easy to pick up and play after some time with it, and without spoilers, is the storyline worth the time?

There is practically no storyline. There is a semblance of a world, and it gives you a purpose for doing what you do, but that's about it.

The game is the furthest thing from a pick up and play game there could be. It's difficult, but not unforgiving. If you're looking for a game to pass the time this is not it. This is a game that will demand hours of your time. You will die. A lot. You could spend a number of hours fighting to get past this one point that just burns you every single time. But it's worth it. You feel rewarded whenever you figure something out. What at first seems impossible becomes possible after you realize how to overcome it. Great game.

And this is the reason I can't wait to get it. When you die it's your fault and not the game's so you don't feel cheated. The fact that you actually have to learn and adapt new strategies with new enemies and obstacles just gets me so excited.
