Scariest 360 game available?
I'm looking for a game that will scare the hell out of me lol. Once that's scary, but good at the same time. The original silent hill for psx was great....hoping for one that has an atmosphere like that...though i'm def. open to other suggestions as well.
Thanks!

Condemned: Criminal Origins.
Seriously, it should only be a few bucks in the bargain bin at your local Wal-Mart or whatever. You should check it out. |

With Condemned: Criminal Origins, it's scary insofar that it's hard to see things. Being blind-sided by enemies, themselves mostly violent hobos, causes you to jump and/or react fairly frequently. Aside from that and two or three areas (that lose most/all of their shock factor if you know they're coming) I didn't find it to be that scary. Even less if you turn up the brightness so you can properly make out rooms and spot charging enemies before they're in your face. The little I played of Condemned 2: Bloodshot was scarier because of its general unpredictability and non-human enemy types, and it was also considerably more violent. I barely made any progress in that game and haven't looked up any videos for it, however, so I'm unsure exactly how scary that game can be.
As for other games, Dead Space and Bioshock have you jumping at shadows and slowing down because of an ever-present sense of dread. Bioshock isn't really designed to be a horror game, but being jumped by a sneaky/camouflaged Splicer can get scary at times. The fact that "dying" is merely a temporary setback takes most of the fear of losing your life, though. With Dead Space what you hear is almost always more terrifying than what you actually see; the game takes delight in making you turn around and look in certain directions even though there's nothing there. Once an enemy makes itself known to you, assuming you're not outnumbered 4-to-1 as the game is actually pretty hard, most of the fear/anxiety is taken away. Enemies also don't respawn so you know that once you've killed everything in a specific area you won't be harassed/surprised until the game's story guides you through those hallways and rooms again. I'm not a particularly big fan of the Condemned series from a gameplay perspective, but Dead Space and Bioshock are great games. Dead Space has a rather nasty learning curve that contributes to taking extra damage/dying for the first hour or so; the concept of shooting horizontally or vertically to sever specific limbs on specific enemy types takes getting used to.

FEAR had me jumping a lot of the time, and pulling the whole "Ok, i know there's something in that room, but i don't have to go in that room.... oh sh*t, yes i do. Ok, inch forward... inch forward... inch forward... WTF WAS THAT?!?" kind of thing.
Other than that, Operation Darkness. Scariest game in the 360 library. Not because it's a horror game, but because it's so bad it's scary. |

I'll second that, that game will have you saying WTF all the way through it, loved it from beginning to end. Scariness aside, its also an awesome game, definitely worth a your time to check it out. |

Condemned and Condemned 2. I play all sorts of horror games and those 2 were the only ones to ever really make me excited. They are not just about cheap jump scenes, but rather just an environment that is so creepy that even when something doesn't jump out at you, you are still on the edge or your seat.

Dead Space, no question. There are times where the scares are cliched and unsurprising and then there are those you don't expect at all and will scare the s**t out of you.
Easily one of my most frighting experiences in the game was when I first encountered the Drag Tentacle. That was definitely one thing I did not expect... in fact, just about every time one of those grabbed Issac's ankle I panic. You better believe I was worried about going around a corner and getting nabbed. Another part was when you first meet the Hunter.
