New Nightmare on elm street?

http://insidemovies.moviefone.com/20...e-earle-haley/

So I was watching this trailer and I am slightly disappointed. Looking at the trailer they made Freddy look like some sort of crybaby, psychologically damaged child molester rather than a perverted, creepy, piece of sh*t which made him awesome. When I was listening to him talk at the end of the trailer it didnt seem like he had any charm. He seems just like a regular evil person. He didn't even smile.

However I did not see any creative kills. I love how freddy kills. Funny and creative. So Ill reserve judgement on the actual film once I watch it.

Maybe I dont like the new guy because I'm not used to change. What do you guys think?

They're adding realism to the character. How many Nightmare on Elm Streets have there been? Like nine or ten? You really wanted to have another case of him just slipping out one-liners and being all crazy like he's in a time capsule from the 80s?

I haven't seen a lot from the series, but this trailer actually made me interested in hopes that maybe they'll do something with the character's background and story as opposed to just being a stupid horror flick like the eight before it. People don't ever take scary movies seriously anymore, no one is ever actually scared most people go to laugh and have fun, that seems kind of odd since it's a HORROR genre.

Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare? Also, his background revealed little by little throughout the films.

That may be true but they have been using comedy in horror movies for a really long time. Comedy helps break the tension and brings relief to me and sets me up for another scare. It really helps break the monotony of just constant killing, mayhem, and destruction.

So the six people who saw all fifty movies might have a tangible background? You're right, what's the point of trying to condense it into one movie if it's already been done.

I'm not talking about the obvious jokes, I'm talking about when people laugh at the horrific death scenes of Friday the 13th and are never scared throughout.

You know, my friend and I was talking about this the other day. He said he wasn't going to go see it solely based on the fact that Robert Englund wasn't going to play Freddy anymore. I thought that was kinda dumb but that's just me. Anyways, you have to realize that sometimes, people just don't turn out to be child molesters out of the blue. If you've seen all of the movies and paid attention to them (which I have), you'll notice that Freddy, before he was killed, took alot of slack from his father. I remember one scene where Freddy was literally just tied up and being cut into by his own father. If that doesn't mess up a person, I don't know what could! I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more into the reasons why he's such a vengeful spirit. They did it with Halloween, so why not this movie, too?

They are reformulating the story, not condensing it (well in a sense yea). I assumed when you said that "I'm hoping that they'll do something with the background story" you wanted to see a film about Freddy Krueger's past integrated into the film and show why he is so evil.

That's why I tend to watch scary movies by myself or with one other person. Having another person laughing at the screen at something that is not supposed to be funny ruins the mood.

I'm trying to point out that this reformulation of the story differs from the original story in a way that he seemed weak and scared during his adult human life. Gloom-is-good already knows what happened in the other movies, and maybe knows about his mother, wife, and daughter. But then again, this is only the trailer. I can't tell much about it other that what I can currently take at face value.

Maybe I should try to make my original question more specific. Is the new reformulation/re-imagining of Freddy Krueger entertaining to you guys? And what are your first thoughts about it?

I look at this trailer and I see a story about creepy guy who happens to be wrongly convicted by the townsfolk and is out for vengeance after he gets turned into bacon.

While a revenge story would be nice, this is a slasher movie we're talking about so it's just going to be the typical s**tty and unoriginal slasher flick. And the part where he gets fried is probably a whole 2-3 minutes and the rest is about those stupid kids. yay

mmm... bacon

2012 was awesome!

I'd be scared and running too if I had no idea what crime I committed that caused an entire town to chase me down and burn me alive.

After watching the trailer, I'm getting the same impression about the movie that I did for all the other Platinum Dunes remakes. I'm not getting my hopes up for this just yet.

Though I have to admit the scenes with Freddy Krueger and the parents looks like they could be really compelling stuff.
