Paranormal Activity

Anyone hear about this movie? Apparently it was just released today. It's a horror movie and it's already being compared to The Blair Witch Project which came out 10 years ago.
Take a look...

I'm skeptic of this... but early reviews are stellar. What do you guys think and will any of you be checking in out or even signing into their website to "demand" that they release it in your area.

Given that the Blair Witch Project was awful...that's not a good comparison But the early reviews say otherwise, probably worth renting at the least.

Blair Witch got good reviews too, but that may just because critics were sucked into the fad. There was nothing good about that movie. For half of the movie the characters argue about stupid s**t. If I wanted to watch that, I'd watch one of those idiotic "reality shows" on MTV. Not to mention whatever we were supposed to be scared of doesn't show up, and the ending... oh God, the ending... Horror movies nowadays always have terrible endings, but Blair Witch's took the cake.

So I expect Paranormal Activity to be just like that... except that there appears to be a change that we'll see whatever we're meant to be scared of.

So my report is glowing. This movie is absolutely terrifying and definitely one of the best movies that I have ever seen!

If any of you ever get a chance to see it, I highly recommend you all run to the nearest theater to do so.

I want to see this so much. It sucks though, because the nearest theater that's showing it is nearly 3 hours away.

However, for everyone who doesn't know, if the movie gets 1,000,000 demands (www.eventful.com/paranormalactivity), it opens up nationwide. Last night when I checked it was around ~400,000. So, I think it's safe to say you'll be seeing it coming to a theater near you sometime soon.

551,009 and rising. Oh, yeah, it's going to go nationwide. Actually as I type this, it's just gone up by 100 votes.

IT IS SO GOOD!!

All day I have been getting randomly creeped the f*ck out by sh*t from the movie.

I swore a movie would never freak me out but this one definitely wins. And it's not even that it's scary, that doesn't even work. TERRIFYING is the best word possible to describe it. Don't torrent it, guys. It's well worth the wait to see it in a theater with people jumping out of their seats freaking out along with you.

Fun fact: ever since the opening midnight shows in the first five cities, this movie has been pure profit. It was made on $11,000 and that's seriously impossible to believe as you're watching it. There are so many nonstop shots it's sickening.

BTW I'll be voting mad crazy so you guys can see it and I'll have people to go nuts about it with.

In case y'all didn't hear, the movie jumped fom like 679,000 when I voted right before postig last night to over 1,000,000 this morning around noontime est. So it's going nationwide!!!

I can't wait to take some people who are p*ssying out and claiming I'm a p*ssy for getting freaked out but they refuse to see it lol.

It's at 706,000 right now... we aren't there yet.

Really? My gf said she got an email from eventful that the movie hit 1,000,000...

Hmm now I'll have to go and ask her again. My apologies for the misinformation.

Hell yeah, I'll finally get to check it out this weekend. Too bad the Northgate theater sucks...

I might watch it tonight if I feel better since Dollhouse has been pretty dull this season.

The count is at 936,000. I think it'll make 1 million sometime early tomorrow morning.

Bad link, bad.

Saw it. Was disappointed by it. Mocked everyone screaming and/or gasping at the "scary parts".

I can't explain what I didn't like about it without giving possible plot points so the majority of this post will be in spoiler tags.

Paranormal Activity easily describes the word "Cliched". Sudden loud noises? Check. Things move suddenly with no explanation/reason? Got it. Turning around the cameraman to show that somebody was right behind him? Yup. Something in the attic? Why not. Plenty of bickering and bitching? Sure. Dumb "person A's body was found by the cops and Person B has not been located" ending? It's there too.

That's not to say that the movie wasn't a bad movie, it just wasn't scary in the least. Some of the "scary parts" were either comical (when the chick gets dragged out of her bed and down the hall... or when the chick just gets up and stands staring at the bed for an hour) or you knew it was coming (like when the guy with the camera turned around to suddenly show the chick standing right behind him).
What was good about the movie was the general terror that you see from the two stars. You can definitely tell that they're scared s**tless and after a bit, you start to feel bad for them for having to experience the ordeal.
That said, I found it really dumb that they chose to dive into demons and weegie boards with pansy psychics and mentions of exorcisms.

Whatever, a lot of people were scared by the movie and might have a hard time getting to sleep tonight, I however was not scared nor will I have a difficult time catching some Z's because of the movie.

Finally: The movie reminds me of The Blair Witch Project. You never see what we're supposed to be scared of and there's nothing but time filler filled with pointless discussions and arguments. The ending was nothing special neither. But overall, it was better than The Blair Witch Project, but only barely.
Then again, this is coming from someone who didn't like The Exorcist the supposedly "scariest movie of all time".

I won't recommend it, but I won't discourage you from seeing it as it might leave a different impression on you.

For the record, the one-million mark has been passed, and I believe it's going nationwide either this weekend or next.

Yup, it's going nationwide October 16th.

Not that is needs to go nationwide. It made it to the top 5 with only 160 theaters and broke the record for the highest-grossing weekend ever for a movie playing at less than 200 theaters, bypassing Oliver Stone's Platoon, though if adjusted for inflation, the two movies did about the same.
