PC Controller Hook-ups?

Hey all. I've been puttiing off learning this for years, but now it's really something I need to know. Can anyone tell me how to hook up a PS2 Controller to a PC?

Here's my situation: I wanted to buy SpiderMan: Web of Shadows for my PS2.
Then, I saw an accurate video of the gameplay and realized how different it was compared to the PS3/XBox360 gameplay. Then I saw a video of the PC play, and it's exactly like the PS3/XBox360 versions. So I'm going to buy it.

I know I can play with keys and all, but is it possible for me to hook up a PS2 controller to my PC so I can play it that way? If so, how?

Here are my specs:

Windows XP Professional
Service Pack 3
1.9GB RAM
75GB Disk Space
All audio/video cards will support the game.

I have 4 USB plugs, phone plug, internet plug, monitor plug, one of those round plugs with the holes in it, and a funny little plug labeled with a circle with three squares surrounding it. What do I do?

Also, is there any way I can hook up a Playstation2 System to a laptop or lone tower monitor so I can play it? If so, how?

Thank you to anyone who can help me.

Yes you can. An adapter costs anywhere from $20-$40 depending on where you buy it from.

You can if they have right video inputs, or if you are gutsy to buy adapters.

One thing you may want to remember is that just because you saw a video of it playing well on a PC does not mean it will play well on YOUR pc.I'm not saying it will not because I don't know your exact setup, but if it looks nice on a PS3/360 then you probably are going to need some serious hardware to make that happen on the PC.

Thanks for the info guys, I'll be checking around for an adaptor, what are they called?

As far as my PCs capability goes, I recently upgraded all my cards and space. I saw on YouTube.com a video of the PC play and asked the dude of it would work on mine (I gave him my specs) and he said yes so I'm taking his word for it. One important detail: I do NOT expect the exact same QUALITY. It will obveously not be as good as on the consols.

Now, the PC can support movies, for one thing. Any DVD I put in the disc drive plays at full DVD quality. I can also support a lot of online games, including ToonTown online and Age of Empires III. So it should have no problem supporting this right? If it doesn't play I can return it.

Thanks again for the help!

Why not? It's exactly the same game as the PS3/Xbox 360 games!

No. Playing a DVD at full quality and a game at full quality are 2 very different things. A DVD just plays back a video file. A game has to render environments, make decisions, store objects in memory, etc. Again, you may have no problem, but I'm just letting you know that you may not be able to run it at the same quality as the video.

dimmerwit: I said it won't be as good because it's on a PC. True it is the same game, but it's on a much smaller screen and it's running on a much less stable system. A console is built for the games, meanwhile a PC is a substitute for the consol. If a had a PS3 I would buy it for PS3. I'm doing this because I want the game super bad and this is the only way I have to get it. The PS2 version might as well not even exist.

Could somebody supply me with a link to buy an adaptor for a PS2 controller? Also, do you think that a 75GB hard drive is enough. The whole game should only be about 4GB max right? Maybe 5?

Oh, by the way, here's a link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nRQ79b2M6U

Now you can see what I see and am hoping to get.

A fair point about stability, although I find reasonably-well maintained PCs to be pretty stable. But I wouldn't describe the PC as a console substitute: there are unique games to the PC (and genres such as RTS games that just work miles better on it) and the graphics on a decent machine are well beyond the PS3/360 level. And it's pretty easy to hook your PC up to a big TV as long as the TV is relatively modern. If you have a decent HDTV then there's no need to drop money on a PC monitor when the TV will work just as well.

Anyway: http://www.amazon.com/PS2-PSX-PlaySt.../dp/B000F6BGXY - you might want to shop around but that one seems pretty good.

And is 75GB enough? It depends on what other games you want. I personally can fill up my PC's 750GB drive easily, yet one of my friends has a 60GB drive and is fine because all he plays is WoW. Most games these days are at least 4GB or more.

Well there are people who have super games that take up lots of space. You sound like one of them filling up 750GBs. I just want this ONE game for my PC. This is the only one I will buy. Once I get it I will delete my Age of Empires/Age of Mythology trials. The only two large file games on my PC will be Disney's ToonTown Online and Spiderman. My PCs fairly new, it shouldn't have trouble supporting that right?

And I was mistaken when I called it a subsitute, my bad. But my PCs pretty well maintained, it hasn't crashed *knocks on wood* since I got it. And I do know about hooking it up to a TV. My PC and TV both support the wire they need to hook into eachother. I just said small screen because I own a laptop so it sorta popped out lol.

But did you actually watch the video? I PMed dude again as it turns out he as a lot of the same hardware as I do, including the WindowsXP format.

But anyway that you all for all the help and thanks so much for the link.

To clear up some stuff...

K, first off, X-Box 360 and PS3 hardware are both different. If you want raw power, it's probably better to go for the PS3, but if you want stability, an X-Box 360 is your better bet. Now, so saying, BOTH PS3's and X-Box 360's will PWN most computers. Both consoles can play games like Assassin's Creed and Prototype at full settings with minimal to no frame rate issues. My PC, which sounds like yours, can't even run it. What's your motherboard, do you know? If you have a dual-core processor, then you should be pretty well off. You'll want something akin to a 7600 GT Nvidia or 6600 GT Nvidia graphics card or better.

And Dimmerwit, it doesn't matter if it's the same game, a game that runs like crap on a system means it's a crap system, and does no justice to the game. PS3's and X-Box 360's are actually high-end pieces of equipment that some computers would have a hard time competing against. Though any computer you put thousands of dollars in could pwn any console system any day.

Not true. It could just mean it is, you know, a crap came.

I don't play PC games that are modern (is it?). The most I go on PC is the Roller Coaster Tycoon series. =D
