Movie premises that had promise.

Like the title says: premises with promise that ended up not meeting their full potential. My nominees:The Collector, Wagons East.

No other movies are coming to mind right now. Some of your selections, then?

Premises as in ideas? Um, Wanted had a good premise but was let down by an insanely bad plot.

ZOIDBERG.
He's been doing this for hours in an attempt to procure some Russian sailor friends. His efforts are in vain.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, Wanted was awesome. What's the matter with you?!

I'm going to go with Next. You'd think that an action movie about a guy that can see up to a few minutes into the future would be pretty sweet... Next was decidedly not sweet... it was actually pretty terrible. I think it all started with them hiring Nicolas Cage to star in the movie.

2012 was awesome!

Speaking of Nicolas Cage: Knowing. There's a piece of paper with random numbers that predict when catastrophic events are gonna happen and the man with the paper must make sense of this all. Sounds totally radical, right? Worst movie I've seen in forever, bogged down by showy special effects, somehow crappy plot, and what felt like a total cliche of a movie; only thing that made it different from these kind of movies was something akin to Numb3rs.

I thought Terminator:Salvation could have been much better.

Freddy vs Jason I thought it could of been a cool movie but it just not worth watching.

Um, I might catch sh*t for this, but I have to go with 9. The movie had amazing animation, style and all, but the story was complete crap. It was poorly presented and the screenplay had some pull but then it just vomited the story onto your plate for you to lap it up. The only bad thing about it was the story. The only.

Another would have to be X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Ew.

Anything with Nicholas Cage post-Con Air usually falls under this premise for the record.

I liked the story. But I do agree that it could have been done so much better than it was. All they really had to do was extend the length (75 mins, really?) and add some development to both the plot and characters and it could have been great.

I agree wholeheartedly. How the hell did they botch that movie?

But Gone in 60 Seconds was just plain awesome and that was post Con Air.

I am only giving Cage Con Air because of everything except him. His hillbilly character was retarded and the only saving grace was. Cusack and Malchovich. Well, let's be honest, everyone outside of Cage was great.

I couldn't stand Gone In 60 Seconds because it seemed to be cashing in on the Fast and Furious craze like XXX.

There's a reason most of the trailers show zero dialogue and zero plot. Instead they give you. "THIS IS NOT YOUR LITTLE BROTHER'S ANIMATED MOVIE"

Rated PG13 for Scary Moments.

Apparently it IS my little brother's animated movie.

Edit: Also it is a scientific fact there is no movie with nicholas cage that would not have been better without him.

Some more of my own, I Am Legend (Will Smith and a sh*t ending made it fail), Click (Adam Sandler and a sh*t ending made it fail), W. (Tried to pretend it was a real biography), Hellboy 2 (What did you people do?), Indiana Jones 4 (Shia LeBouf and a sh*t ending),

Hugh Jackman.

Anyway, I thought given how incredible the book was, I Am Legend could have been amazing. They could have really played on the internal strugle with the character. Instead they hired Will Smith.

That's a sigh-inducing statement.

Will Smith is a great actor, in fact right after his dog died in that movie I was thinking "Holy sh*t, this is an amazing movie." And then the rest of the movie happened and I was extremely disappointed. In that aspect it was disappointing, they didn't know how to end it.

Same with something like 28 Days Later, or Sunshine, stupid endings.

Will Smith is an amazing actor because he is capable of emoting properly exactly once in his career?

Matchstick Men was a good movie. Everything else, not so much.

The Pursuit of Happyness was a good movie. And in Seven Pounds, Woody Harrelson was great...

My problem was if you're going to make a depressing movie, COMMIT. Don't be like. Oh everythings going horribly and then  it was all a dream
