what are some quick disc repair fixes?
I have a few games that either won't load up completely or, if they do load, they freeze-up at "Press Start"... The frustrating thing is that, to my naked eye, these discs look pristine! Please, any and all suggestions are welcome.

Cleaning discs that have no obvious smudges or scratches is pointless and won't change anything, though without knowing which games are working and which games aren't it's mostly a guessing game as far as pinpointing the exact problem is concerned.
I'll assume, though, that the games that are giving you problems are the ones on dual-layered DVDs, which is a problem with the laser. Opening the PS2 up, removing dust and giving the lens a gentle cleaning with a cotton swap/Q-tip fixes most problems, otherwise there's the possibility that the lens is dying or isn't being supplied the proper amount of power.

Yeah, I am having the same problem with my Guitar Hero Smash Hits Disc... I was playling it at one of my friends and the song Killing in the Name keeps skipping at the bass solo at the beginning... the highway will continue to roll and you can play it normally, but pausing or finishing it will cause it to freeze... Would that have been caused by his playstation or my game

If it's only happening on certain consoles (i.e. his) then there's little chance the game itself is at fault.
