Question Okami Sequal: Would you support?

As far as Wii games go, I believe Okami is the best one ive played. The thing is, it's way too short, I have beaten it 7 times already, and the ending is bogus. I believe it needs a long sequal, and have seen support sites trying to convince capcom to do so. If I post a link to one of these sites, would you show support?

No amount of support sites will drive Capcom to produce a sequel. It's the money that drives a sequel, and the game sold poorly. There's no question Okami is an amazing game. In fact, I bought it for the PS2 after it won Game of the Year from IGN. Unfortunately, it didn't do even close to as well as Capcom thought it would.

So no, I don't think posting to any of the sites would do much good. Even though it won't happen (production of Okami 2), discussion of a sequel is fine. I would defiantly buy a sequel if it was released.

Quick question: are you like an administrator or somthing? cause that was a very detailed response. A dreamkiller, but detailed nonetheless :'(

Wait a sec... If it did so bad, why did it recieve multiple awards and was reconfigured to go with the Wii?

I'm just a moderator. I watch over the Wii forum.

This is what I understand... Capcom chose to close Clover Studies (The developer of Okami) because the sales of their games were not up to par with Capcom's standards. This is probably the number one reason Okami 2 won't be coming. The developers who made the game are gone. Talent from Clover has regrouped to form Seeds Inc., a new development group, which in October 2007 merged with another company (ODD Incorporated) to form Platinum Games.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clover_Studio

Sadly, creating an amazing game doesn't generate sales. There's got to be a desire from the general public, strong advertising campaign, etc. To be honest, I didn't even pick up the game until it won Game of the Year from IGN and other websites. Playing as an animal on a zelda-like adventure didn't appeal to me.

As for the port to the Wii, I would imagine it was made because it was inexpensive and a quick was to nab some cash. The game was complete. Ready at Dawn took the place of Clover Studies to handle the PS2 to Wii process. I believe the game managed to sell around 250,000 units on the Wii, and that's alright for a port.

Thumbs up Okami sequel = amazing

I have been hoping for an Okami sequel the minute I beat it, It has got to be the best game EVER. I played it on the ps2, not the wii, but you get the point. I would absolutely support a sequel. And what I liked about Okami is that there were alot of secrets that you didnt need to figure out, but if you did you could fight a minor boss or learn an extra power. I made an account on this website just so I could reply to this. An Okami sequel is the best idea I've ever heard.

I'm bumping this thread because it seems like there's a chance of an Okami sequel actually happening. Capcom recently filed a trademark for the name "Okamiden"

When asked about the possibility of an Okami sequel, Svensson made an interesting comment that makes me believe that there's some sort of Okami sequel or spin-off being planned:

Quote:
"Nothing I can say here. Sorry." - Christian Svensson, Corporate Officer/VP of Strategic Planning & Business Development
(Source: http://www.nintendoeverything.com/?p=22199 )

Now, while that comment doesn't really confirm anything, previous responses to questions regarding an Okami sequel were "We're not planning anything"

For example, Inafune commented on the possibility of an Okami sequel (along with other Capcom cult hits):

Quote:
If we had no other properties to depend on for making new games, we might be desperate enough to create sequels to [Okami & others]
(Source: http://www.nintendoeverything.com/?p=7467 )

Also, this quote is quite interesting:

Quote:
The last male character I want to touch upon is Issun in Okami. He isn’t a playable character, not to mention you don’t really see him during gameplay (LOL), but I think that people who have cleared Okami realize that he was a great main character. Conceptually, Issun is a childish character who manifests this immaturity in his extreme perversion and foul mouth; however, he is also a good-hearted, loyal, and compassionate figure. As Okami is an adventure game, Issun holds a special place as the character with the largest number of lines I have ever written, and as you move through the game, I think he is also the most fleshed out of my characters. Among all the characters I have created, he is the only character that hasn’t been used by another creator, and even now, he is a character whose story I feel I’d like to continue some day.” – Okami director/localization

Okamiden would translate to "Legend of the Wolf" or "Okami Legends" so it's a possibility. Quick question though, how similar to Okami is Twilight Princess? I played a bit of the PS2 version around the same time my sister was playing TP on the Gamecube/Wii (I have both versions) and the starting story seem to have a lot of parallels.

Oooh, nice to have a translation on the "Okamiden" I hadn't heard what it meant, so thank you!

I didn't find TP and Okami too similar at all, to be honest. Besides the Wolf part and the idea of exploration, there's not much the two games have in common. For reference, I found that Twilight Princess was just a waste of my time, but Okami turned out to be one of my favorite games of all time, and I was skeptical as hell when I first started playing it.

As I said, I had only played/seen bits of the games. I still have to get around to finishing them. The basic idea of restoring life-giving trees is in both games isn't it?

To be honest, it's been so long since I've played Twilight Princess, I honestly don't know. I don't remember it, but it very well could be. You know you have a bad game when nothing about it is memorable.

If by some amazing divine intervention the original team came together once more, only then would I purchase an Okami sequel.
As stated before the game did poorly in America as well as Japan (which is surprising to me) so its not coming back.

On the bright side most the core members of the original Clover team are all together over at Platinum Games so its still possible we'll see another game of that caliber. It couldn't be a sequel since Capcom owns the Okami rights but I don't doubt they could make another game just as good as Okami.
