NES destroyer

My brother got a game genie for the nes ( i was born in 87 so i was very young) and i guess it seemed harmless but later on it destroyed it. did anyone else have a similar problem.

I never actually owned one, but my aunt had one at her house. I pretty much only used it for SMB3, as that was the only game they had with a significant amount of codes.

It was great for occasional use, but I can see how it would ruin the gameplay experience if that's all you used.

Unless of course you are being literal when you say it "destroyed" your NES, which I know nothing about.

Game Genies do not "destroy" any system. But if codes are used wrong they can corrupt a save and occasionally the whole game.
Stop sending me PMs about ArMax/Gameshark/Codebreaker codes, make a thread here instead and I will reply to you.

re

i remember that you had to force the game genie in the system. after a couple of years it made it hard to play games in the nes because the nes was damaged and the wires in some games were bent. the nes could not even play games .

Heh, you did have to jam the thing in there. I haven't ever had any problems, and I looked up a guide for using the genie and it didn't have anything about it being a danger to the system. It was still an interesting read about the game genie overall. Here's the faq.

If you have had problems, it might very well be the game genie itself that needs cleaning, or if your console isn't working, I will direct you to this thread.

Wikipedia is user created, take everything with a grain of salt.

The game genie actually makes the NES games work better, since it helps the pins connect to the system.
