[NEW CD PURCHASE] Blackwater Park

I already knew half the songs on here [there is only 8] but it brought back good memories to those songs. Considering I dealt with low quality burnt cd's. My favorite on here is 'A Funeral Portrait' I just love this song, and somebody on YouTube synced the song with the movie 300 very well. There is some mellow-ness on this cd also, especially 'Patterns In The Ivy'

Discuss.

This is probably my 3rd favorite Opeth album behind Morningrise and Damnation. My favorite track is definitely The Drapery Falls. I love the doomy sound of this album.

Anyways, the cool part about this album is the band it got me interested in, Blackwater Park, which is a prog rock band from like the 70s. They are pretty good. Dirt Box is their album and it was worth the work trying to find it.

Which cd would you consider next? I figure even though Opeth aren't always my favorite, I mean everyone finds new bands, that they have good long term value, especially if you don't feel like metal then you have their mellow side. So I plan on picking up some more when the chance comes.

Well it depends what you like. Their heaviest CD is Deliverence by far, but I think it is kinda boring and bland. My favorite is Morningrise, but if you aren't really crazy about Opeth's softer side then I would not recommend it. If you liked Blackwater Park then I think you would also like Still Life because the albums are pretty closely related. I absolutely loved the guitar riffs on that album to. They fit in perfectly.

I will check out Still Life then if any stores have it. Cause I like a good mix, it's good to have mellow and heavy on one cd, saves multitasking when you have to switch cd's.

Lightbulb I see a bad moon rising, I see trouble on the way...

Just ask at a record store to preview an album or two. I find the tracks on Ghost Reveries move from hard to soft, and are less dedicated to one side of Opeth's sound.
Your head is throbbing with pain...
Your lungs feel as if they are on fire...
The red spots on your neck get bigger every day...
Every vein in your body has turned black...
You cough and hold your quivering hand up to your face...
You see drops of blood...
You can feel it growing...
You have The virus...

I like you started with Blackwater Park after that I picked up Deliverance and went forward in their releases from there and then I went back to the beginning four. I found that to be a really good way to get into them. Deliverance isn't bland necessarily it's just different when contrasted with Blackwater Park.
