Korn: Untitled
Has anyone picked up Korn's latest album? I got it yesterday, and wasn't really impressed all that much with it as I was with their previous albums. The only songs that really stuck out for me were Starting Over, Evolution, Hold On, Love and Luxury, and Innocent Bystander (14 tracks in total if you got the deluxe edition, which I did). Don't get me wrong, I still like it, it's just that it wasn't really as good, or for that matter any worse, than their previous efforts. At least I got 2 codes for the redemption of free fan appreciation T-shirts, a fold out poster, and a dvd with my copy. Korn are probably in my top 5 favorite bands, too. I've liked them ever since I started really started to begin appreciating music back around when Freak On A Leash was released.

Yeah I love KoRn as well, awesome band. I have heard most of the stuff on the album and evolution is a big stand out for me. The rest of the album wasnt as great as some of their other stuff which gets caught in my head. But the album wasnt really a stand out, just average in my opinion.

I saw them at the Family Values Tour back in 2005, and I have to say, they put on the best damn show you will ever see, hands down. It's kind of ironic too, because the worst band I ever saw was also the 1st act on during the whole thing. It was Walls of Jericho (sp?), and they actually got booed off stage. Someone started a "you suck" chant when they went into their 2nd song, and actually had to have the plug pulled because people were throwing trash at them. I think the guitarist got smacked in the face with what looked like a used condom, though from my position in the crowd, it could have been just a limp balloon. WoJ's only redeeming factor was that their female lead singer was pretty damn good looking.

There's some kind of sweet, poetic irony inherent in adolescent mini-moshers booing off a proper hardcore band at a nu-metal gig.

They probably would have been good, but the drummer kept screwing up and trying to start over as well as the bassist, plus the singer sounded like she swallowed a rat, and the whole band looked like they were bombed out of their minds. I've heard some of their cds and they're not bad, I'd just prefer not to listen to them.
Plus, the majority of the crowd was 21+. I only saw maybe a handfull of people under 18. There were actually a good number of people in their 30's and 40's in the crowd, too. |

The thing about Korn is that they're an old band. They're first album came out in the mid 90's. They have already established themselves as a band, and they really don't have anything left to proven, other than the fact that they can still function missing two of the original members.
Considering how old they're getting to be (Jon Davis is quickly approaching 40) it's still amazing that they're able to perform the same way, and with the exception of some minor live issues (with Jon playing guitar and singing now). Basically, they're getting older and it's reflecting in their music and lyrics. Jon's not a twenty-something guy pissed at his dad anymore, he's got other things going on in his life. ...at least they're not pulling a Linkin Park, after three albums they go for the style of music played in Sears.

You have to realize that Korn came out back in the early to mid 90's. Most of their fan base is aging as well as them. The fact that they can still keep it together and move around on stage live like they did back in the day is mind blowing. I haven't heard a bad album from them either. They were either excellent or just ok.
