The Strokes
I've discovered The Strokes around the first week of December (I didn't know they were on Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock beforehand), and I thought that their first album, Is This It, was an okay album. Keep in mind that I just randomly decided to buy their album just for some nice background music to do my homework. Unfortunately, I've only listened to the album 2-3 times. There are some catchy stuff, until I've really dug deep into their first album once again just two weeks ago. MAN ARE THEY AWESOME! I can't believe that one month went by without me truly noticing the raw music of The Strokes' first album. The same thing happened to me with Appetite for Destruction. I bought the CD around July 2006, and I haven't "fully" heard it until two months ago. It's such a kickass album with loads of cowbell!
So back to The Strokes. For the past two weeks, I've listened to the album Is This It so many times that my iTunes registers the song New York City Cops along with others around the 90-100 play count mark. That's pretty intense love for a band out there. I've also given the other albums, Room On Fire (includes the Guitar Hero 3 song everyone knows, Reptilia), and First Impressions of Earth. I haven't heard everything in Room On Fire, but it sounds like The Strokes drifted away from their signature style in Is This It, but is way evident that they completely changed in First Impressions of Earth. I kinda like the song Juicebox in First Impressions of Earth, but it's weird contrasting it to the first album I loved. Room On Fire has some of The Strokes I know from Is This It, but it's kind of refreshing too. Ultimately, The Strokes first album Is This It will always be the best album for me from them. Anyways, I just wanted to know if there are other GW members out there that also like The Strokes. Any takers?

I haven't heard anything off First Impressions Of Earth, but I liked the previous two albums. The high point for me was "12:51" which has that infectious melody.

Wow, I used to love The Strokes when they first came out. They just have that garage rock n roll sound that you can't help but let loose to. But I'll admit I fell off that high for the band after the first album. Room On Fire just didn't do it for me when I heard it, but I think I'll give it another try now. And I had no idea there was a third album, so I'll be checking out that as well.

I love The Strokes. It's not the fact they're one of critics most popular go-to bands next to The White Stripes, The Stone Roses, and Pavement (All bands I love as wel). They're lead singer has a kind of monotone voice that does not drag on like you'd suspect to when I say monotony, instead it bleeds a scratchy fire through the speakers into the listners ears and corresponds perfectly well with the catchy guitar overtones and in the pocket drumming. If I could I would marry The Strokes, they're one of the few bands from the garage rock revival era (99-01 or 02) that I actually like. A perfect mixture of the simplicity of the Talking Heads with the spirit of Television. Perfect.

Did anyone like their cover of Mercy, Mercy Me by Al Green with Josh Homme and Eddie Vedder? I enjoyed it a lot and its not something I'd expect out of either of them even though they're both very versatile.

I love the Strokes. I got into them during my sophomore year of high school. I had stolen Is This It from my friend and was listening to it all the time. My favorite song was Hard To Explain, followed by Someday.
Someday is actually my ringback tone on my cell phone. It's off the heezy. Pretty much I believe in them, I have Room On Fire and First Impressions of Earth. There are some pretty good songs on those albums, but I'm pretty sure that they don't stand up to Is This It. |

They're ok in my book. I've never loved them or hated them. Reptilia was a good song, and I haven't heard too much else by them but what I did hear I liked. It wasn't the best I've heard from that style, but they were still ok.
