Skills, Red VS green numbers?

I was looking at my skills (blade block ect) and noticed something. Despite having the Grey prince training the number is still red. This is a concern because that means i am losing 3 level ups unless it is going to let me go to 103.

So yea... do i not understand these number colors or did the game bug on me or what happened?

Well green means that you're getting a bonus. Red means you've got something taking skills away. Could be a diesase, an item or a spell. Just take a look through your items and the effects upon you and find whats causing it. So one of those things has probably occured.

Just out of curiosity, did you do several dark brotherhood quests lately? You might have obtained the Scales of Pitiless Justice which would explain the odd stat drop.

No i didn't... i have done a knife in the dark but haven't turned it in

this seems odd to me. it looks like the buff is directly changing my skill rather then giving me the fortify skill bonus. this sucks because that is going to make it harder to level up unless i console commands fix it... in which case i would probably lose the buff.

Oh wait... yes, I do remember that the skill increases he teaches you are indeed permanent, just as the argonian in Chorrol increases your mercantile skill after you do her quest.

i was under the impression it was a permanent buff... and wouldn't cost me 6/10ths of a max level.

Most (if not all) of the time, when you're taught something about a skill by an NPC, it's an actual increase to the skill, rather than a buff.

If any of your major skills were leveled this way, they should still count towards level ups.
