In Rainbows
I know, I know. Someone already made a thread about this, but still. I just bought the album the other day (Along with Mothers Milk, Andy Warhol, License to Ill, and Ritual De Lo Habitual) and I must say it is... It's beauty incarnate. I know that's a very cliche wording but it's easily the second best album I've heard all last year (I refuse to dethrone Era Vulgaris). I consider myself somewhat a Radiohead fan (I own OK Computer, Kid A which is my favorite, a handful of songs on my limewire, and I am getting The Bends and Amnesia soon.) and this is probably some of the most beautiful song crafting they've ever done. Weird fish/Arpeggi is absolutly astounding. That was the first song that really grabbed me, shook me, and struck me once right above the brow. And then the fact it's followed up by All I need (Which has a beautiful ending) is incredible. I honestly did not even know the tracks switched... That's how flawless the transition was. It was like one of the transitions off Colors by BTBAM. My only con is the first time I listened to it 15 Steps didn't immediatly blow my mind like Airbag did, which was kinda what I was expecting. Not in the sense I wanted another OK Computer but I was expecting to be immediatly disemboweled by a beautiful melody that did not **** around. Then I found the albums underling flow (As well as the apperent masterful craft Radiohead puts into every album) which picked me up and swept me away. I'd recommend this album to anyone. Seriously, if you're reading this go out and get it. Put on your slippers, a robe, and go to Best Buy and get it... Even if you own it already.
So there folks. Tell me what you thought of it... Again (I got beat to the punch before). And I'll end this thread with my own description of this album(Sheerly metaphorical I assure you). In_Rainbows is a wounded dove stuttering in flight and dropping silver bullets as it tries to find it's way back home, but it never quite makes it. Edit: 5/5 stars.

I downloaded it back in December. Not really knowing Radiohead apart from their most well-known songs, it took a while, but now I can agree with you. Definitely one of last year's best albums. My favorites are probably Jigsaw Falling Into Place and Faust Arp. Overall awesomely creative band. I'll be sure to get OK Computer when I can.

I was one of the guys who downloaded it October 10th when they released it. I don't regret it one bit. I'm a diehard Radiohead fan, and this album definitely has to be my second favorite behind OK Computer. It is indeed masterfully crafted and each song speaks different levels to me. Not that that makes sense or anything, but whatever.
The scotch_mist webcast was positively amazing, too.

It's pretty. 15 Step is my 'favourite' much as I hate to say anything is. It sounds brilliant with a sub, especially in that bit after halfway where the bass takes over for a while before the last few lines come in. Nude is incredible. |

Looks like I should chime in here... heh.
In_Rainbows is phenomenal. The Reckoner and Nude are probably my favorite tracks, but the entire album itself speaks volumes about Radiohead's talent. To release something this gorgeous nearly 10 years after their most successful (at least I think it is..) album, OK Computer, just shows what a great band they'll continue to be. Also, Weird Fishes/Arpeggi is growing on me every time I listen to it. scotch_mist really was amazing. I hope it'll be available for purchase/download/whatever eventually too. |

I personally love Videotape. It has the haunting, sparse vocals/piano thing going on, then it has this flat-out WEIRD drum machine beat going on, that intensifies and weaves in and out of the whole piece. Theres bits when I swear it speeds up SLIGHTLY, then goes back to the right tempo. It took a while to get used to it, but now I think it's amazing.
15 Steps is my other favourite. How they made such a catchy guitar melody in 5/4 time is beyond me. |
