I'm a pretty girl

Yes, that should just about do it. My streak of irrelevant titles picks up once again with two in a row now being the mark. This title becomes void with the fact I am a man by biological definition and have a mild appearnce by my own definition. But it was a good Futurama reference. Moving on, the idea of this thread is one knew to this sect of the forums or perhaps any. I just figured it would be fun. Anyways, time to stop adding depth to this godforsaken paragraph I continue to carve words into. This thread is a make others giddy thread I suppose you could call it. I want... Nay... I demand, that you tell me who you're favorite person in the music forums is and why you like and/or respect their musical opinion so much. This I not a popularity contest, I plan not on keeping track, I just thought it would be fun. Plus there are some people here that I cannot help but smile when I read their posts because I enjoy them so much. The maximum number of people you can choose is three and the minimum is obvious. You can choose anyone, anyone in the world that visits the forums, even me. In fact, I'd be honored... Of course you don't have to choose me... You bastard. And no you cannot choose your least favorites because that's pure cruelty.

Personally, this will sound odd. But it's that big lovable bear Eye in the Sky! I don't display the part a lot I suppose. But I nod to most of his opinions, and not just because they are sometimes laced with subtle Matt Groening humor. They are as strong as they are well defended. Quite obviously the bands we relate to the easiest are Maiden and Rush, bands he likes almost to a bias point of view I'd say if I knew him less. But it seems everytime we have a debate about them he's the first to provide a boatload of information; enough information to crash Windows '95. And, I love these posts.

Now, does it make me gay to have choosen a man as my pick for my favorite musical opinion. Nay. Ambigous perhaps, but not pertainingly. Now come together like buttchecks and make this thread grow fat with text.

I wish every Metallica song could be I, Disappear.

Either FarewellNikki (for the fact that we are both Coheed and Cambria diehards) or the_virus, who never seems to be without a recommendation.

Either Eye! or Virus because they're open minded and enjoy a variety of genres.

lol@drunkard

I'd probably go with the_virus for his knowledge of everything, or freakish, for his knowing the difference between emo, and Hawthorne Heights/Aiden/Silverstein crap.

Basically anybody who listens to metal, preferably thrash metal, power metal, and hair metal. But most of the guys that have similar tastes to me don't post here, they post in Headbangers anonymous. War Pig and Montezuma probably have the most similar tastes to me, so for that I highly respect their musical opinions.

As for playing instruments and stuff, He.Is.Legend, you win that category.

My favorite person here would have to be me, just because I'm that self centered.

Either that, or it would be Cluck, because he has pretty much any answer to any music question I pose to him.

Post I'm in the mood, the rhythm is right, move to the music, we can roll all night...

I'm a fan of people who attempt to justify their opinion with case examples rather than stating it as the final word. I can't fault someone for liking a band that I think is downright atrocious, but I can think their opinion is weak and unfounded when they try to convince me the band is...

I also appreciate people who are open to other genres of music. Saying you 'hate rap' or 'hate country' is incredibly short-sighted if you ask me (then again who did?). I can sympathize with a disinterest in a particular sound, but a genre as a whole is too big a fish to fry in the same pan. ie: If you hate Bob Marley, it would be ignorant to state you hate all reggae music, etc.

You can feel it growing...
You have The virus...

I'm going to stand up and say it.

I don't really trust anyone else's opinion of music on the internet.

Why?

Because I have found too many people to be elitist, and I'm pretty tired of it.

I'm not really trying to peg anyone on GW as being that way, cause I haven't found anyone like that. I mean no offense to anyone here by saying that.

But I mean, I just don't go asking people generally what they think of this band, or that band, or ask for recommendations. Usually, I am pretty good at seeking out music by myself, I'll discover bands via just searching around, I'll check out bands on other bands Myspace pages (love it or hate it, Myspace is a godsend for bands).

Now, I have checked out bands that my own band mates have recommended, or other band members I know have recommended. I go do it on my time and just let it go really. If I like them, I'll let them know. If I don't, I just let it go.

Wow, thanks for having the courage to stand up and say that, JoZ. I'll be certain to not base my musical tastes on other people on the internet's musical taste from now on!
  maybe they'll gnaw right through...

In response to the question, Civil and convict (from back in the day before the forum became infested with generic metalcore fans and the classics are always better than current bands) helped influence a lot of bands I listen to today. Both took a great position on helping new people listen to new and good bands, something that has really disappeared in the forum (and something I'm trying to bring back). Today seeing as convict is no longer here and CD makes only the brief appearance to (rightfully) harrass people on their ****ty musical opinions, I'd say the_virus and Majin just because the two of them like a number of the same bands I like and I feel that if I ever wanted to discuss music with them, it would be an intelligent conversation.

I'm tempted on how to respond to you, rpg king because I'm trying to decide where to start. One, CD is right to point out JoZ's stance on not listening to anyone on new music. Its people like him that keep great bands from being exposed to larger audiences. Two, music actually means something to CD and I. For us music is something that has affected our lives and we're trying to get people invested in bands that will invoke the same feelings. If it means being negative, so be it. There needs to be people willing to criticize for others to make the change and actually listen to music with meaning. This forum used to be a good source for finding new bands but it has changed for the worse. We're just trying to fix that (and we can back our statements up with proof too) seeing as how you never make any meaningful recommendations to people there's no reason for you to stand up and protect the ignorant

I make recommendations all the time. Look in the Iron Maiden songs for starters. Just because you're so opinionated that you think because I don't talk about underground bands 24/7 I'm completely ignorant. Which is the stupidest thing ever because you probably don't know crap about any of the bands I like to begin with.

You're also pigheaded to think you two are the only people to have music affect there lives, like it's some sort of white magic only you two can evoke. Give me a flippin' break.

Furthermore, to others maybe your opinions are just as ****ty as you think theirs are. Which is exactly why you should keep your mouth shut when it comes to things like that unless they state opinions as fact.

In fact, pretty much everything you say is opinion so just shut the **** up with the pessimism. Seriously, it's retarded. You're just as ignorant as the rest of everyone else on this forum until you've heard every band ever to exist.

And there's a difference between critizing and creating negative energy in every thread you go to. It's not helpful, it's annoying, and I'm know further compelled to listen to your ****ty bands now then I was way back two years ago when you first joined. So please, just shut up.

I like to think I've done a pretty good job for a 'newbie' as far as introducing bands goes. I have an extremely broad taste, like Virus, and I try to suggest in the same manor. Broad and mostly unheard/under appreciated. But I wouldn't be so quick to place blame on the forum for not being a good source for finding new music. I've noticed quite a few people trying to bring in bands and artists that aren't well known. It's just posters that don't actually make the effort to try out new suggestions that make this forum hard to use effectively.
If I asked you what you thought the vast majority of people on here listened to, you'd probably say the same as everyone else would. Hard rock and Metal. And people don't seem too willing to veer away from those genres. They'd rather attack other people for their musical tastes than try a new brand of sound. (This is not a blanket statement, I realize this does not apply to everyone here.)

That's my two cents, anyway.
