Anyone bought a video game without even knowing what it was about?

I bought jericho and the witcher recently, But i havent played the witcher. However, I did not know jericho was a shooter game. . . I just bought it cause it looked cool . . . So my poll has 5 things

1. Bought it because it looked cool
2. Bought it because of hype (from media or a friend)
3. Bought it because of a High rating
4. all 3
5. Ive never done it

I've obviously bought a game because of a high rating before without ever playing it. But beyond that I don't tend to buy games on impulse without knowing anything about them.

Only one springs to mind.

Beyond Good And Evil.

A friend of mine loved the game and kept telling me I needed to get it but never really explained anything about it. And, one day I came across a cheap used copy of it at EB and figured "what the hell?". So, I bought it, played it and loved it.

A man chooses. A slave obeys.

There's a bump in the basement. There's a knocking on the wall. In the pumping of the pistons, I swear I heard your call. There's a bump in the basement. There's a hole in the floor. There's a guard in the garden, locking up the door. There's a rumble in the floorboards. No shutting out the sound. And the workers are below me, digging underground. Feel the building all around me like a wrap of armored skin. But the more we are protected... the more we're trapped within.

The thing that first comes to mind is the days as a little kid, when there were rarely any commericals for videogames (im talking about Nes and Super Nes). I bought a whole bunch of games as a little kid (actually my dad), and the game i didnt know anything about, was Super mario. Its because i saw the cartrige at my cousins house, so i just ask my dad to buy a real copy.

for me, it's Halo 2. didn't care about Halo until then. I still don't care too much about the story, but I like the game.

The only game I've bought since I actually started to care about games (around 6th grade) without actually reading anything about whether it was good or not was Star Wars Bounty Hunter for Gamecube.
I had read previews and the game sounded pretty good, and then I got it for Christmas without ever reading a review on it.

Now the game wasn't terrible by any means, and I had fun with it, but it wasn't great.
