I will occasionally get that. I am running windows Vista. I know if there is a program i download and its only supported through XP the execution file wont run. Check the system requirements.
Also sometimes the windows firewall will block potentially dangerous files. The pc might be identifying it as a hazard file and wont allow it to run. Try temporarily disabling the windows firewall. There is also program somewhere under your firewall settings that should give you the option to allow certain programs to breach the firewall with out turning it off. I don't know if this will solve the problem but you can always try right?

And there is nothing else in the read me that might explain why its not executing ?
There is one more thing i think you can try. If it has already asked you to choose a directory folder to save it in, i would try going into that folder and see if there is something else that can be done. Try running the setup from that folder. I can image thats were the .exe file would be. See what the read me says to do next, i know that sometimes files will install themselves. When you click to install it, the pc's reaction by not responding or doing anything might be because it is installed.

I have Been Running it from the folder I saved it in,
and this is the entire readme: -------------------------------------- GTA2 - README FIRST! -------------------------------------- WARNING -------------- This version of GTA2 is modified from its original version to enable support for modern PC's and current Microsoft Windows(R) platforms. However, we unfortunately cannot guarantee that GTA2 will work correctly on your PC. Installation and execution of this software is entirely at your own risk. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS -------------------------------------------------- - After downloading GTA2, unzip the file and double-click on the installer (GTA2.exe). - The Install program will start; follow the on-screen install instructions and choose where you would like to install GTA2. - GTA2 will then be installed and a program group created for you in "START > PROGRAMS > Rockstar Games > GTA2". - You will NEED to run "AutoDetect" from the Program Menu BEFORE running the game for the first time. - In AutoDetect you can choose your Rendering Engine (Method of Graphics Display). If your Graphics card supports 3D acceleration then please choose "Direct3D"; otherwise please choose "DirectDraw" or whatever other option appears in the drop-down menu. If you are unsure please choose "Direct3D" (you can always change it back later). - Once you are done with the AutoDetect, choose "Save" to save your settings. You can now run GTA2! - Just click on "START > PROGRAMS > Rockstar Games > GTA2 > GTA2" to start. - Have Fun! yep, nothing about why it wont install or troubleshooting, and it definetly hasnt installed, because i havent got the thing on the start button where it says 'new programs Installed'. anything else?
