Band of the day Thread
Saw this work somewhere else so I'm curious if it would work here. Its more of a way to get people to find new bands, so try to post bands most people here will not have listened to. One post a day, post a ittle something about the band, maybe a video or something to give people a taste (I'd say put up a song or album on mediafire, megaupload, or yousendit, but I don't think that would be allowed.) If this isn't allowed, at least one or two bands will get in before this is closed.
Ok, I was going to start off with City of Caterpillar, but I decided these guys would be so much better. Its what Cap'n Jazz would sound like if they existed today (only better because Cap'n Jazz ****ing owns). Its emo at its purest, all over the place, and not much real singing, but I feel the sing/scream is much more emotional and raw feeling than anything else. I'd recommend picking up their demo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUcWY...109%26page%3D3 (video) http://www.myspace.com/streetsmartcyclist (myspace) http://www.myspace.com/capnjazz1 (their biggest influence it seems) ****Mods: Can I also bring back the Song of the Week Civil Disobedient used to do. Put up a song a week for people to download and comment on? |

This is what the recommendation thread in CE was suppose to be like, yet everyone always posts well known stuff.
I know they are quite well known, but Manchester Orchestra still isn't that big of a band. Not only do they make really good 'mellow' music, but the guys make hilarious podcasts all the time. Their latest podcast: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsGtd...p%3Ft%3D248825 Myspace: www.myspace.com/manchesterorchestra

I don't go into CE too often. Have you listened to Margot and the Nuclear So and So's? I think they are a better version of Manchester Orchestra. Just can't get into MO at times

I like this idea. Unfortunately I'm too tired to add anything useful at the moment (mad weekend) but I'll stick this thread.

Neon Horse is a good band that not many people know about (probably because they are a new band). They have what I like to call a Weird Rock style, which sounds pretty cool to me. I really can't explain them all that well, since they don't really fit into a genre, so let their music and their music video do the talking.

Scott Walker isn't relatively known. He pretty much writes and plays a lot of different genres, but IMO his best is his out-of-this-world Avant Garde music that puts a chill down your spine (At least on the last album, which is the only one I own.)

Would it be alright if I posted songs people could download or should I just stick to myspace pages? Neon Horse is on T&N? Did not even know that, its interesting. They kinda got that Jonezetta dancey-feel to them. I could see myself liking this for a few listens but just not listening to it ever again. Can't say the same for Scott Walker though. I couldn't get past a few minutes, nothing was really happening and had nothing to pull me in |

Alright. Just curious because a lot of the bands I put on here don't really care about downloading as its the best way for their work to get out (except for Portraits of Past, but they are weird)

Ok, the band I choose today would be The Wedding. They may be well known in some places, but where I'm from hardly anybody has heard of them. They have a pop/rock sort of style, and it seems like they have a different personality in every song. Music

Ok well the artist I chose today was Dax Johnson and you have probably hear me talk about him before, but I must mention him again because he is so amazing. Pretty much he plays piano music full of emotion and IMO I have never heard anyone who has put this amount of emotion in their music. He has a couple instrumental albums, which are the best IMO, and one vocal album, which is okay. The best thing to do when listening to his music is to think about a good memory that you had when you were REALLY young. At the end of most of his songs it makes you miss the memory so much that it is crazy. Anyways here is his myspace link:
Dax Johnson's Myspace The best song on there is Levity so if you are going to listen to any of them listen to that one. |

I know that there are a couple people on gamewinners who listen to HammerFall. But anybody that likes powermetal should check them out.
HammerFall's Myspace I would listen to Hearts on Fire or Blood Bound. Hearts on Fire is probably their best song, and if you like it you should check out Crimson Thunder. My favorite and probably thier best album. If you didn't like any of the songs on there I would still check out thier first two albums, Glory to the Brave and Legacy of Kings because those are more like 'eighties metal' as Hammerfall says on their website. |

My BOTD is Edaline. This album is how midwest emo is supposed to be played. Hard and emotional with well placed yells. It sounds like a precursor to what the majority of the world incorrectly deems 'screamo.' But that shouldn't keep you from listening to it. All I listen to is emo and real screamo and this album has really struck a chord with me, its that good.
