Sony released their hardware sales for the Holiday season.

PlayStation®Vita, PlayStation®3, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) and PlayStation®2
Retail Sales Exceed 6.5 Million Units Worldwide During the Holiday Sales

For those that don't want to read the article, the breakdown is like this.

Retail sales to customers estimated by SCEI.
Holiday season covers:

1. November 21 to January 5, 2012 for Japan and Asia
2. November 21 to December 31, 2011 for North America
3. November 18 to December 31, 2011 for Europe / PAL territories

PSVita= 500k Japan+Asia
PS3= 3.9m+ (on track for 15m shipped for the year)
PSP= 1.6m
PS2= 0.5m

PS Move = 1.7m

Not bad, not bad at all. Things to keep in mind, these numbers are sold to consumers, not sold to retailers.

It actually just released officially in some South American countries. The reason most Sony systems have a longer life-span than the others is for this very reason. The release to first world first, then about 5 years down the line, they start releasing to the 2nd world, and then finally they release a little bit to the 3rd world at the end of the lifecycle to get a little more sales.

MS and Nintendo just don't give a crap about the other countries.

Also, take places like China (where I'm living for those not in the know). The biggest mover is the PS2, not the PS3. It's got a huge backlog of easily pirated games (which the chinese love to do), plus the hardware is cheap as crap. Sony doesn't have an official presence over here except in Hong Kong, so the mainlanders have to buy from another country or HK and ship it into the mainland, which drives up sales for the other regions.
