Your character/origins.

Let's get things going with a little talk about what you picked as your first character race/type.

I personally went with a human noble warrior. The origin story is pretty nice, and you get an additional companion for choosing that background. Of course I didn't know that before picking the race, but still.

The only strange thing was that I didn't pick the most youthful complexion, and made myself look a little weathered, and so  my older brother looked younger than me.

I'm pretty sure everyone chose noble human warrior. I was thinking about rocking a rogue or whatever they are, but it'd be the same origin story.

Did you go with any tattoos?

Elven rogue, female. I chose male at first but no matter what I did, he always looked too feminine for my liking so I just said f*ck it and made a female.

Enjoying it so far.

I'd post a screenshot, but all the auto-screenshots only show the back of my character. What triggers these auto-screenshots? Some make sense, like my meeting with three human travellers and my decision to let them live, but then I have other images of a wall...

I hear that the dwarven commoner and city elf origins are pretty dark. I'm going to play through those eventually.

I've already gone through two origins and my roomate has gone through another. My first playthrough (the one I finished already) I was a City Elven Warrior. They basically tell you the entire origin in the character creation screen, which is pretty much the story of Braveheart but without the Scots and English.

That resonated the most with what kind of character I wanted to make, so I did that. There's some cool late-game tie ins, but from what I've seen every origin ties in eventually, but from what I hear the Human Noble is the least interesting of all of them. In City elf you (These aren't big spoilers) break into the castle of Denerim and kill the Arl's son for trying to rape your wife and other females in the Alienage, and of course you break into that same castle later in the game for different reasons.  I played the entire game very "William Wallace." Always focusing on the freedom of my people and fellow City Elves, and hating all those who looked down upon me. The whole "greater good" thing.

I've also done the Mage origin, which in comparison to the my first, my roomates and what I've heard of the others... it was boring. It takes literally five seconds to complete and doesn't really have any interesting consequences or characters.

My roommate picked a Dwarfven noble, and I don't want to ruin it, but if you're playing the game for the first time I'd suggest making a Dwarfven noble first because it has the most interesting tie-in with the rest of the story in my opinion. I won't ruin it though.

Hah, my experience was pretty identical, except I chose rogue rather than warrior. I picked it pretty much BECAUSE it sounded like Elven Braveheart.

Which is odd because I don't exactly like the film.

My character is a human noble who actually looks like he fits the backstory. Young, clean shaven and looks kind of like me with blonde hair so he looks like a young warrior ready to learn the ropes. It fits because he looks like he really is new to this and Alistair looks like he would be old enough to teach him a thing or two.

Almost like Anikan and Obi-wan. It's not like a younger guy teaching an older man how to be a Grey Warden so every cutscene and conversation looks true to the backstory.
