Voices of the Lifestream

Released on 14th September 2007, FFVII: Voices of the Lifestream is a remix album of 45 tracks from the original game. I was intriguied when I discovered this as I'm a great fan of Nobuo Uematsu's work and wondered what these other interpretations would be like. I wasn't disappointed. There are some great tracks here, and some are quite unexpected. For example, the tranquil Ahead on our Way has been redone, and renamed Ahead on our Rave. While a very different sound to the original, it is still recognisable. In fact, almost all the tracks have a sense of familiarity about them, despite the vast differences in style.

All the tracks are available for free download.

Individual tracks (~1.8GB total)
All 45 tracks in WAV and MP3 format (BitTorrent, 2.32GB)

If you don't feel like downloading anything, you can listen to sample on the homepage of the same site.

There, fixed.

Some of them are very good, I have to admit... I think my favourite at the moment is "Black Wing Metamorphosis" (take a guess at what it's based off). It sorta reminds me of both old school side-scrollers and early RPG's.

I know the pieces fit, 'cause I watched them fall away.

Many of these are too, err, challenging for me. Embraced Empathy ("Dear to the heart" it says, but various other track listings seem to call the song "Holding My Thoughts In My Heart") and Suco de Melancia ("Costa del Sol" theme) are the ones I liked and downloaded, and I haven't listened to the last disc yet. Tells a lot about my music taste, huh? Nevertheless, great job introducing this album here. I would've never found out about this on my own.

I really like this album; most of the songs are really well done. A few I don't like, but the majority are sweet.

If you use them as a ringtone it doesn't sound too bad.

I listen to the tracks while playing an MMOPRG. It's great background music and is much better than the game's soundtrack. The only one I don't like is Short Skirts (Tifa's Theme).

Serenity (Main Theme), Stone Eyes (The Great Warrior), Daydreaming Again (Interrupted by Fireworks) and The Golden Ivories of Gaia (Various) are my favourites. Yes, call me boring for liking the peaceful ones, but I've always preferred them to the more upbeat tracks.

2Moons. The Main Theme and town themes fit surprisingly well.
