So I just got the game right now and Im waiting for my free content to finish downloading (cant do anything else or it stops) so I figured I would come on here and get some tips on the game. A friend of mine has had it since it came out and he has shown me that the game is very unforgiving and lets you know real quick if your ready to head into a new area or not.
So there is always the "save often" tip but what else have you guys found to be useful while playing?

Tips are in white. Highlight to read...
---
360
If you're playing the 360 version, consider if you want to be a filthy cheater[I did with my third character] or not and do the infinite XP glitch at the beginning. I would recommend if you do that, to go no higher than 17 or 18. You still want to level up and get your specializations...
---
Any
All plats, otherwise... If you are not playing a rogue, the first one you acquire[pretty early on, Leliana] is highly encouraged. Unlocking doors and chests is a must, since you can't bash them down.
---
Party
I recommend carefully selecting the spells every level for Morrigan, and setting tactics each time you want to. Otherwise she does the same thing every battle. Not good.
---
Class/party
If you are a rogue, only add the other two rogues for the achievement. As soon as you acquire them, leave them at your campsite. I carry One of the two mages, usually the healer, Wynne, Allistair, and Sten. Trust me, having the fighters both use taunt is a good thing.
---
Class/Party
If you're a warrior, Keep both mages and one rogue. Get every ability that increases hostility towards you, and if you get equipment that reduces hostility, give it to Wynne, Morrigan, and then your rogue, in that order
---
Class/Party
If you're a Magi, Think, do you want to be a healer orr combat magi? Keep Morrigan with you until you get the other magi regardless, then select your opposite. If you're the healer, have two warriors and a rogue. Combat, then keep the healer, one warrior, and one rogue.
---
Take them for what it's worth. Oddly, this works with my playstyle. Try it, hate it, then build upon it. That's my motto.

Get a good understanding of the character tactics feature as soon as you can, as it'll help automate battles to an extent and prevent a lot of micromanagement.
If you set up your companion's first tactic as "Enemy: Is target of controlled party member > Attack", your party will always focus fire on whatever you are currently attacking. This prevents you from spreading your damage around, and lets you move from one target to the next fairly efficiently. If you really need to break your party up you can always toggle them to hold their positions and then micromanage from there.
Also learn what combinations of spells and so on work well together. Mages with the entropy hexes will do a lot more damage with subsequent spells cast on that enemy, so for instance if you cast vulnerability hex on an enemy, when you then cast drain life on it, you'll receive a larger portion of life. This thread (http://forums.gamewinners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=590286) should help in regard to this part.
Honestly that's all I can think of. Bear in mind that you can turn down the difficulty at any time, although you will forever be deemed a wuss for playing on anything below normal.

My number one suggestion would be to upgrade Morrigan and allow her to learn the ability "Heal" as fast as possible. Even if that character dies five seconds later, or if Morrigan ends up just healing the entire battle, its better than having everyone die or waste health potions.
