View Full Version : The Best Way to Catch Legendary Pokémon

The best way I came up with for catching Legendary Pokémon is this.
Use the following Pokémon and move sets, all should be level 70 or over (Mine are at level 74) and holding BrightPowder:
ZAPDOS that knows Flash, Thunder Wave, Double Team, and Aerial Ace
PIDGEOT that knows Sand-Attack, Double Team, Roost, and Air Slash
VICTREEBEL that knows Flash, Stun Spore, Sleep Powder, and Double Team
CROBAT that knows Double Team, Mean Look, Aerial Ace, and Roost
Put PIDGEOT in front, once the battle has started, use Sand-Attack until the Legendary’s accuracy won’t go any lower, then send out ZAPDOS and use Thunder Wave (note: if the Legendary is a steel type Pokémon, use VICTREEBEL instead and use Stun Spore), then send PIDGEOT back out and use Double Team until your evasiveness is maxed out (note: use ZAPDOS instead if the Legendary knows a never-miss move),use Roost if the Legendary gets in a lucky hit, and then use any kind of Pokéball to catch the Legendary. The goal of this strategy is to prevent the Legendary Pokémon from hitting your Pokémon with attacks, it is especially hard for the Legendary Pokémon to hit you with Struggle (note: this doesn’t guarantee that the Legendary won’t be able to hit you, but it will be very unlikely). Use CROBAT for wondering Legendary’s. Start off with Mean Look, max out evasiveness with Double Team, then use any kind of Pokéball, Timer Balls work best.
It took me a long time to perfect this strategy, HOPE YOU ENJOY!!

You know any pokemon with sleep powder works just as well. Also its better to sleep the pokemon then to thunderwave them. Timer balls only work better then Ultra balls after 11 turns I think and more if its duskballs in a cave.

Timer Balls have worked best for me, you can use any kind of Pokéball you want.

Aren't threads about the starter giving advice over receiving advice not allowed in these forums? I tried looking for the rules, but I can't manage to find them. From what I remember, years ago, this sort of thing was not allowed.
Anyway, this team wouldn't work so well against a Legendary with the Rock or Steel type (Regirock, Heatran). Flying-type moves (which are the only attack moves there) are ineffective against such Pokemon.
Unfortunately, your strategy has yet to be perfected--as I noted above.

I think you mean ground type there.
Also, this strategy is not perfect. Its just luck. Some pokéballs work better than other and thus have a better luck factor of working but that's all it is, luck. You can tips these odds in your favour by putting the pokémon to sleep and weakening it but, one, there are easier ways to do it then the way you described and, two, it still all comes down to luck.
Also, as stated above, timers balls only work best after a certain amount of turns has surpassed. If they worked better for you it's because (yes, you guessed it) luck.

The goal of my strategy is not to weaken the Pokémon, but to make the Pokémon hard to hit you, because in attacking it, there's always a chance of making the Pokémon faint. If you don't like it, then you don't have to use it. The choice is yours.

You shouldnt have posted it if you did not want criticism.
And the much better strategy is have your synchronizer first, fainted. then have a Parasect with Spore and Falseswipe.

Nice Strategy, but a little rough around the edges. I would probably go with different moves sets.

The topic title is misleading. It should be "Most Unnecessarily Time Consuming Way to Catch Legendary Pokémon". It is far more efficient and less of a waste of time to simply put the legendary Pokémon to sleep and attack it with False Swipe, since False Swipe never makes any Pokémon faint. It can't hit you as long as it's asleep, you can make it as weak as it can possibly go without knocking it out, and you're more likely to catch it while it's asleep.
I hope you also realise that this is flawed. If the Pokémon you are trying to catch succeeds in using Struggle five times (or four times, depending on the HP of the Pokémon in question), it will faint and you will have to start again. In addition, you say you can use any Pokéball. But the only Pokéball that has any sort of decent chance of catching a full HP legendary Pokémon at any point is a Master Ball (obviously) Timer Ball after a huge number of turns. With an Ultra Ball or a Dusk Ball if you're in a cave or it's night time, you might get lucky, but with anything else I would not be at all surprised if the legendary Struggled itself to death before you caught it.
Also, these forums are for queries and discussions, not guides. I understand you're new, so here's some advice: if you really want to post something like this you should do it in the stickied information/FAQ topic at the top of the thread listing for the forum, or you could have waited until someone posted a thread in which they ask about good ways of catching Pokémon. But don't post a thread about your methods or guide to doing something just because you think someone might find it useful. For this reason, I'm closing this thread.
