I wouldn't recommend using Giga Impact. The lost turns are too crippling.

Yes, all recharge attacks are bad and as a rule of thumb should not be used. The one excusable exception is Hyper Beam on special variants of Porygon-Z.
There's not much point in training to level 100 using ONLY the Pokémon you're EV training against, because you'll get maxed out on EVs after a certain point.
Regigigas need to build his moveset around trying to stall out the crippling turns of Slow Start. You should think about that.
Mismagius is a special attacker. Most sets use Calm Mind if I recall correctly.

My favorite mismag set is CM, Shadowball,thunderbolt/ hp fighting, substitute.
Just switch it in on something it will scare, sub up, cm once or twice, then rape. I used to always have trouble with this set, mainly the Hp fighting varient, but I didn't know if you are willing to breed for Hidded Powers.

If only Regigigas could learn Protect...
However, it can learn Rock Polish, so that would be a good option to help offset the Slow Start ability, or you could take advantage of the initially slow speed by using Avalanche. Confuse Ray could be another good option to help against Slow Start. For dealing damage, its best options appear to be Return, Earthquake, Stone Edge, Brick Break, Zen Headbutt, and the Elemental Punches.
Looking at Smogon.com, they also list Toxic and Thunderwave as moves for either a stalling moveset or a wall moveset.

I dont understand why people Insist on trying to use Regifail as a sweeper. I havent tested this yet but have discussed a set like Toxic, Substitute, return, knock off.
It becomes a great support pokemon thats a bitch to take down. With Steath rock up and toxic you could make them switch alot and cause plenty of damage. Knock off is just an annoying move, and With his defenses he could easily set up reall strong Subs.

Giga impact was an example of a strong move. Mismagius has that moveset because when the opponent switches out to avoid perish song they get hit with the doubled power of pursuit. I'm not as focused on moves. Also, i don't do all the combo things, i just put together moves that coordinate or that together, can trump anything. if anything it's less predictable cause no ones done it before.

May 25th, 2009, 09:22 PM
If no one has done it before then it wont work well. Or if you are the first to do it then it should catch on fast.

Although Perish Song and Pursuit on paper may sound good to you, in practice, firstly Perish Song and Mean Look is a better combo, and secondly Mismagius isn't the best Pokémon to carry Pursuit for any reason because it has a pitiful base Atk.
And Simon is right. Most things that you don't see done much are not done much because they don't work. By all means experiment in new things, as there is a small possibility you invent something new and useful, but bear in mind that somebody has probably tried it before and realised it doesn't work, so make sure to at least "do your homework" on whatever it is you're trying to do.
I realise we haven't actually given you much advice in training yet, so:
If you want to make a sweeper out of Regigigas (not advised), yeah, train him against the stuff that gives Attack and Speed until he has 252 EVs in each, then get him 4 HP EVs.
For Mismagius, if you still want to go with your set, go with EVs in lots of HP, some Attack, and quite a bit in the defences, particularly physical defence.

another reason i dont "do my homework" is i never really got into the terms, determining potential skills/ability/whatever, blahblahblah. and quite frankly i just dont see why it haas to be so complicated. to get adult intrest maybe?
SuperSimon
May 26th, 2009, 05:02 PM
Its really not that complicated to know the basics. Look at a Pokemons base stats, if it has a higher special attack, give it special attacks. If it has higher attack, give it physical attacks. If it has defensive stats, use it as a wall or a tank.
Psychic
May 26th, 2009, 06:31 PM
I did that. Hat's how I came up with a Regigigas sweeper. What are all the things like "sweeper"?
Also when I said "complicated", I meant comparitively.
SuperSimon
May 26th, 2009, 06:56 PM
Yes but there is more to look at then just stats there are movesets typing and abilitys.
A sweeper is a pokemon whose main goal is to knock out multiple pokemon.
A tank is a pokemon who is able to take hits and dish them out.
A Wall is a pokemon who's main goal is to sponge up hits.
A support pokemons goal is to support its team.

So:
Tank: Atks, Defs
Walls: HP, Defs
Sweeper: P or S Atk, Spd
Support: ?
What do you think of a Sableye/Spiritomb Wall?
What are suggested Natures for each?
Seerow
May 28th, 2009, 06:19 AM
Spiritomb is more of a tank than a wall, because it can dish out damage alright as well.
Supporters usually want EVs in HP and the defences, since they tend not to attack a huge amount.
For natures you usually want to increase a favourable stat and decrease a stat you not using. So for a physical sweeper, Adamant and Jolly are good because they increase the stats you're using and decrease the one you're not using. For a physical tank using special attacks, Bold is good. etc.

Go calm or bold bliss wall. She is the best special wall in the game.

blissey alsso knows support moves like soft boiled. the others?
SuperSimon
May 29th, 2009, 03:08 PM
Softboiled is not a support move. Blissey is a wall. The only supporting she can do is status spreading or wishpassing.
Psychic
May 29th, 2009, 08:32 PM
what about the rest of the team?
Okay... I'm normally bright, but when I went on to Smogon, it lost me. What is with this crap? Secret ID? It does what now? Tiers? PID? Uber? I happen to know uber is german for over but I doubt that will help. I do know a little about ubers and tiers, but other than that, I'm more stumped than a deforestated area.
SuperSimon
May 29th, 2009, 11:56 PM
Ok ill dumb this down for you.
There are 4 tiers. Uber, OU (over used), BL ( forgot what this means), UU (under used).
The way to think of these tiers is BL is a ban list for UU and Uber is a ban list for OU. OU and BL are pokemon of the same calibur and OU is just the top 50 or so (it's based off of percents) pokemon used.
Your secret ID is really only used for RNG abuse. You need a cheating device to find it.
Bulbasaurus Rex
May 30th, 2009, 12:44 AM
BL stands for Border Line. By the way, you forgot the last tier, NU, which stands for Never Used.
Cytosine
May 30th, 2009, 07:04 AM
That is true, Bulba, although I thought they hadn't finished deciding which pokemon were in NU vs UU. On a similar note, I think UU and BL are constantly being debated as well.

and the other five?
SuperSimon
May 31st, 2009, 11:39 AM
sorry if this post doesn't turn out good. I'm on aphone.
and as of now there is no nu tier if I'm correct. smogon is currently trying to balance out the uu tier. they put every pokemon in BL and NU into theUU tier in oreder to find a balanced UU tier. they ban pokemon from this tier everyso often into the BL tier if the pokemon is found to beoverpoweringto the tier. therefore as ofnow thereis no NU tier and the bl tier is very small.
and the other roles thst you gave the pokemon seem fine but they would need good movesets of course. come up with some on your own so we can see the team as a whole and itwill be much easyer to critique.

so? i post from my dsi :P
anyway shortly after posting about smogon, i read it a little more caarefully and i got it.
also i have two chansy eggs. when they hatch i'll need an iv battle. i'm posting it here becausse the wifi zone seems slow. well, anyway, they'll hatch sometime tomorrow cause its almost midnight here so i'll do it then.
i got a bold chansy and need an iv battle
SuperSimon

I dont think you should be very worried about IVs yet. Worry about making a team and trying to perfect it before yyou spend hours breeding for good IVs. In my eyes your trying to run before you can walk.

how about:
Ninjask PSweeper
Alakazam SSweeper
Blissey Wall
Spiritomb PTank
Golem or Aggron STank
Umbreon Support
other things that sound good:
Shaymin Sweeper
Heatran Tank
Palkia Sweeper
Bulbasaurus Rex
June 2nd, 2009, 04:24 PM
Golem and Aggron want to be Physical Tanks, not Special Tanks.
Unless you're specifically having an uber battle, not very many people will like battling with you if you use Shaymin and/or Palkia.
SuperSimon
June 2nd, 2009, 04:43 PM
Actually only Shaymin-S is uber. Land forme is actually UU if Im correct.
Also post movesets and stuff. Ninjask should only be used as a baton passer.
But other wise it doesnt seem to bad and I cant see to many holes. Ninjask is useless though with out anything recieving its boosts.

Psychic, if you go to Serebii and go to the pokemon you want to use, at the bottom of that page it lists the base stats. Depending on which base stats are higher depends on what type of pokemon it should be. Make sure you use pokemon that can learn moves that are aided by their higher base stat. For example, you don't want to use Luxray because most of its attacks are Special, whereas its Physical Attack is the higher stat.
If you use Serebii and Smogon together, you can build a very strong team. I don't competitive battle, so I don't worry about EVs, but I do use Smogon a lot to get good movesets if I'm thinking of using a particular pokemon.

This is exactly what I didnt want you to do.. Try something on your own, and we will critque it. You will never get better at making movesets if you do not try anything on your own.

Im pretty sure the championship is 4 pokemon 2v2 and that is a completely different metagame, that I am not familiar with. I know using protect is good to ward off random explosions.
