Right, so I got Platinum a little while ago. I've just beaten the 5th gym and I'm on way to Celestic town. Anyway,
1) Gallade or Alakazam?
2) Moveset for Milotic?
3) Training spots for level 40+ Pokemon. I don't mind if it's Trainers or Wild Pokemon.

Thanks.

New question: What's a good moveset for Infernape?

A challenger question appears! Is Infernape a worthwhile Fire type or am I better off attaining a Pokemon like Ninetales or Charizard?

Infernape os a very worthwhile fire type with the moveset Flamethrower, Nasty Plot, Grass Knot, closecombat.
Gallade over Alakzam but thats just my opinion. They play diferent roles.
Milotic: surf, Icebeam, toxic recover is pretty good.

I'd go with Alakazam over Gallade, mostly because you already have a powerful fighting type in Infernape. Alakazam also has that awesome Special Attack, letting Psychic on Alakazam overpower Zen Headbutt on Gallade, the respective physical-type Psychic move.

I'm not too good with movesets, but I'm understanding a bit more now since my thread.

I can't really think of a great spot for training 40+ pokemon at that point in the game, I'll post when I find one.

Thanks. I've a habit of using Alakazam, as I've had one in my team from way back with Red & Blue all the way to Diamond, however my cousin traded me a Gallade so I thought I'd ask. I also did a bit of an exp comparison and found that Gallade has a lot more exp to each level than my other Pokemon so that put me off a bit too. I think I'll stick with Alakazam.

As for Infernape, why Grass Knot? And where can I obtain Flamethrower as Infernape aapparently doesn't learn it.

Grass Knot is used to counter Water and Ground types. Most big threats will be heavy Pokémon, which will give Grass Knot a lot of Base Power, plus Infernape can't learn Energy Ball.

1) Gallade and Alakazam both perform different roles. Gallade is sturdy and can support with attacks like Wish and Hypnosis and can attack with physical attacks, Alakazam is weak but fast and can attack powerfully with special attacks. Consider the roles of other Pokémon in your team and choose accordingly. We can give you more advice here if you tell us the rest of your (future) team.

2) SuperSimon's Milotic moveset is good.

3) Find a trainer you can battle again with the VS Seeker or whatever it's called these days. I think there's a trainer with only members of the Happiny/Chansey/Blissey family that can be re-battled, those Pokémon are known for giving out plenty of exp. Alternatively just find an area with wild Pokémon around level 40. But using the VS Seeker is a better idea, trainer Pokémon give more experience than wild Pokémon in general.

SuperSimon's Infernape set is good. Grass Knot is to kill the stuff that Flamethrower and Close Combat can't. TM Flamethrower can be obtained from the Game Corner in Veilstone or from the building that you have to Surf along the river from Floarama to get to (I forget what the building is called) if I recall correctly.

Thanks Tom.

My team is Infernape, Flygon, Umbreon, Gallade/Alakazam, Milotic and an undecided Pokemon. Speaking of which, any suggestions for the 6th one?

*planned team.

I'm just missing the Flygon.

any of the starter fire types can learn the ultimate fire move Blast Burn, the old man just north of the resort area will teach it to... whoever.

Don't post in threads which have not received new posts in more than a few weeks. That'll be a caution.
