AC adapter problems?

Hola :)

So I dug out my old NES after finding my old Mario Bros 3. Of course, I wanted to play it. So I plug everything in but I'm having a problem with the adapter.
I press power and the red light just flickers on and off
What's wrong? Honestly though, I'm not using the actual Nintendo adapter, just a universal one. It's worked before though. I'm just not sure what's up this time.

I can choose the polarity and how many volts the adapter uses. I thought that info might help here. :)

OH AND ALSO: Since this adapter has 4 different outputs(?) and two of them do fit in the Nintendo, I'm not sure which one is recommended.

Any help would be so so so so so so so so nice and very greatly appreciated!

What makes you think it's the power adapter? Is the screen blinking as well when you try to turn it on?

If that's the case, I suggest referring to This thread. (http://forums.gamewinners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=579784) You can just replace the 72 pin connector, or you can try to fix the part yourself. I suggest looking it up to see what you want to do.

But how would I fix it by myself? I'm not allowed to use ebay and I can't think of any video game stores that might sell them.

Well, of course you should always try to clean the connectors on both the game and the console before you try anything too brave.

I can't find the article myself now, but there was a way of fixing the pins in the console by gently bending them out so that they will come in contact with the games connectors. If this is your only option, then I don't see the harm in trying, as the system is basically dead otherwise.

Of course, it could also be a problem of corrosion that can't really be repaired. It's up to you on what to do, I'd just do a little more research first.
