Well as some of you in the Philly region might know, WMMR (93.3 fm) is the biggest and best rock station around, from the top rated morning show in the country (Preston and Steve) to one of the most recognizable and prolific radio DJs ever (Pierre Robert) to the rest of their crew with all the support they give to local musicians, charitable causes (campout for hunger), and just plain great outings (cardboard classic) and accesibility to the public (they have an open door policy for either all or most of the day).

If any of you are hardcore or even casual MMR listeners, you'll know that every year at the beginning and end of the outdoor concert season they put on a huge show known as the MMRbq. Last year's was a huge event with Stone Temple Pilots kicking off their reunion tour as the headliner, with Staind, Everclear, The Hooters, Airbourne, Ashes Divide, Silvertide, and Jealousy Curve supporting.

This year's is looking to be no less spectacular, with an even more impressive lineup. I have to say, I didn't think they could top last year's show, but once again, as with everything MMR does, they've outdone themselves this time. Here's this year's lineup:

ZZ Top
The Offspring
Papa Roach
Puddle Of Mudd
Saliva
Duff McKagan's Loaded
Halestorm

I don't know if anyone here is going or can go, but I'm personally making it a point to take 2 days off from both my jobs for this one (the concert and a day of recovery). ZZ Top and The Offspring, especially the latter, are 2 of my all time favorite bands. The Offspring are what got me into music as heavily as I am and they're one of the few bands that can do no wrong in my eyes.

By the way, here's the link to theri site:

I find it hard to believe no one thinks this is an awesome lineup.

I'd like to see ZZ Top, but they seem a little out of context in this lineup. I think I'd prefer to see them in a more bluesy setting.

it's frankly a terrible lineup. if i looked out of my window and saw those bands playing, i'd close the curtains.

I only listen to the first two artists and they don't seem like they fit the same type of music as the last artists. Though I don't know much about them, so...

I find it hard to believe no one thinks this is an awesome lineup.I'm afraid that unless you're a connoisseur of Dad Rock, outdated pop-punk, sell out nu-metal gone "emo", Nirvana wannabes, "hard rock" drivel, spin-off vanity projects or bands no one cares about (in that order) then in fact no, that is not an awesome lineup.

Well it'sd be worth it to sit through papa roach, puddle of mudd, and saliva just to see ZZ Top and The Offspring. And how are The Offspring pop punk?

Because they are a punk band who are popular. Even Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Offspring) agrees.

And I can't think of anything I would sit through that triumvirate of tripe for.

Well you only listen to "rawr rawr rawr" metal so your opinion of those bands is kinda moot anyway.

That's a pretty stupid thing to say. Discounting someone's opinion because they don't like a band...

Anyway I've heard like 3 Offspring songs and even I can identify that they are pop-punk.

The problem with this lineup is that many of those bands burned out at least a few years ago. Although even then I wouldn't go, but these bands are nowhere near their peak anymore.

No, it's the fact that he bashes every band that's not metal and doesn't scream or growl.

If you think the Offspring are pop punk, download a few songs off the Smash or Americana albums, Americana especially. And since when did ZZ Top burn out? They've been around for 40+ years, have had the exact same lineup since their inception and just recently got rid of their 1st manager, keep putting out albums, and do a tour once every 2 or 3 years. I'd hardly call that a burnt out band.

That doesn't mean that they haven't burnt out. If they haven't put out a good album in 20 years I'd call them burnt out. If they just keep recycling the same crap then I'd say they are burnt out. Now obviously I haven't listened to a ton of ZZ Top, but I think it's safe to say they aren't at their peak anymore.

No, all their stuff is still pretty damn good. It's no Cheap Sunglasses, La Grange, or Sharp Dressed Man, but their most recent stuff still rocks. They're also working on a new album, so we'll have to see how that sounds, too.

I don't know what the hell you just said, but if it's that his sig is wrong then good call. Slayer doesn't scream at all (minus Angel Of Death at the start) and their singer is catholic anyway.

Slayer is definately one of the best pure thrash bands (along with Overkill).

Wait, how does his religion influence whether or not he screams?

Sorry, I phrased that badly. It doesn't but LK6's sig also says "angry at Christians" "white power". I can tell you that Tom doesn't beleive in that stuff and he doesn't even write all of the lyrics. Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman write most of the Slayer stuff.

There's not even "stuff" to believe. Slayer's lyrics aren't pro- or anti-anything, they just tell stories or state facts without opinion (although add descriptive context or artistic expression). This ignoramus probably heard "Angel of Death" and assumed they're a white power band because it chronicles a famous Nazi perpetrator of the holocaust.

This is especially annoying since this is the ****ing internet, and one Google search can settle it:

"Hanneman's lyrics for the song "Angel of Death" led to accusations of Slayer being Nazi sympathizers.[3] The track details the actions of Nazi doctor Josef Mengele at the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II.[6] Hanneman has defended himself with "nothing I put in the lyrics that says necessarily he was a bad man, because to me - well, isn't that obvious? I shouldn't have to tell you that."[1] The band have stated numerous times that they do not condone Nazism and are merely interested in the subject.[7]"

No, I realize that their stuff isn't anything like that. It was basically just a joke between me and a couple friends. We were basically going through random public generilizations of different bands, and I thought it would catch a giggle or two if I put it up here.

Spoiler: Jokes usually work best when people realize you are making a joke.

Pro tip: Personal jokes are personal for a reason. Furthermore it wasn't really that funny anyway.
