And you thought Dragonforce was fast? Pfft, check this guy out.

Hmm, I'm surprised Spiner hasn't even taken a look at this given how big of a Dragonforce fanboy he is.

I had seen it a while ago. It's amazing, and I'm sure that guy can write meaningful solos, but that really was just showing off skill. Herman Li probably couldn't do that, but he does write great stuff.
Unfortunately, their new album is just awful and I probably won't enjoy anything other than their first 3 albums.

All Herman needs to do is slow down a bit and lay off the Whammy pedal and he'd be much better. Slow down to show off your technicality so that people don't think you're just hitting the fretboard (and to disprove the people who say that DF never plays what they play on the album in live shows). And use the Whammy to accentuate notes, not entire solos. And Dave Macintosh needs to learn more drum beats, because I can't think of a song where he doesn't do the fast thrash double-kick rhythm for the majority of the song...

I completely agree that he needs to learn some more drum beats, but the double-kick rhythm isn't based in thrash. If you listen to a lot of the really good power metal bands (Gamma Ray, fast Edguy, fast Helloween) you'll hear it a lot. It's mostly based in the really fast power metal which is why he uses it so much.
Thrash on the other hand is based around kick-snare-kick-snare rhythms. If you listen to something like Dark Angel, Flotsam & Jetsam, or even Slayer, you will hear that it's mostly just kick-snare, rather than kick-kick snare that power metal uses.

Herman Li needs to slow down especially live because he's sloppy. Music isn't about force f*cking as many notes possible into a song, which is what Dragonforce seems to do in all their songs. Prime example of a band that needs to take a different direction and really self evaluate. Mad respect though for Herman Li.

Herman Li should get a bit more Tom Morello in him. I'm not a huge fan of DF, but he's not too bad.

That's something I'd never like to hear. I have always thought Tom Morello sucks. People only think he's good because he uses so many effects. He's definately not as great as people think he is.

The problem is that technical ability seems to be the basis for determining how great a guitarist someone is. Tom Morello may not have been as fast as John Petrucci or Herman Li or whatever, but he certainly was innovative.

I know spiner's seen DF live as well as me (twice), but I dunno if he's seen the battle that their keyboardist and bassist do.
The last time I saw them live, their bassist came out with a 6 string and the keyboardist came out with a keytar and they dueled it out on stage with all the other band members off stage. Honestly, there was more heart, soul, and emotion in his guitar playing than both Scott and Herman have ever put into any of their songs. Although it was still the distinctive fast as all hell DF sound, it was just.....better. If they could have him write or help out with writing a majority of the guitar parts on their next album, they'd be just flat out incredible, and not just for the speed they play at.
