Taken from Interpol's official website:

It's been a long time. We shouldn't have left you...

After the touring for OLTA came to an end, we all dispersed to tend to our individual personal lives.
...And to get our ducks in a row.

Now the band has reconvened, and we are rehearsing new songs.

We find ourselves marveling at the tremendous focus
that has defined our early rehearsals for this, our 4th effort.

All kidding aside, we feel like a new band.

Once again, we have no concept to this batch of song-writing.
(We are often asked about our intentions when we set out to write music.)
There is rarely any intention to this process.
We just make the music.

And without going into too much detail, the songs sound vital.

It's as though we've hit upon a balance between our urgency and
our calm. And true to our better work, this is music that unravels over time.

We anticipate that, once it's done, you high-minded folks will welcome the music...
into your bedrooms...to swagger and breathe...

It's still early, yet, though. We will keep you posted.

In the meantime, a couple of us have kept ourselves busy with extra-curricular activities. Carlos has made a film called My Friends Told Me About You and Sam has released a record with his band Magnetic Morning.

And we hope that you're all weathering well the turmoil of the age.

Lovingly,

Interpol

This is pretty awesome. Interpol's been dead silent since OLTA and it's great to hear this.

Anyone else as pumped about this as I am?

Haha oh man, everyone used to give my graphics teacher in year 9 so much sh*t for liking Interpol.

But yeah, never listened to them at all. Any reccomendations?

I recommend that you listen to something better than pretentious hipster tosh.

The irony is that their first drummer runs probably my favourite record label ever, Level-Plane.

Their first album, Turn on the Bright Lights, is great, full of killer tracks, and pretty accessible. The second, Antics, has some killer tracks but its fair share of weak ones. Our Love To Admire, the most recent one, has one or two really good ones, a handful of alright ones, and some weak ones.

Of course, this is all my own opinion. But it's a sort of guide, I guess.

I recommend that you listen to something better than pretentious hipster tosh.

Haven't heard that one before. But hey, I can see where you could get off saying that. To be fair, the way they wrote that blog-thing makes it seem like they're trying to come off as the next groundbreaking band.

But I like the music. :link:

Really? I didn't get that vibe at all. I got the basic "we're excited about what we're doing, it might sound different this time around, we hope you'll be excited about it too" vibe.

I can't wait. I never listened to the 3rd album, so I guess I'll have to check it out since they're now making a 4th. Any song recs?

Interpol is one of the few bands I just automatically pick up when they release something new. I couldn't even tell you the name of a track if you played 90% of their catalogue. I just like the mood of Interpol's sound. It's halfway melancholy, no matter what the song's about.

I have a hard time listening to them. If the mood isn't right, they're absolutely horrible and mildly irritating...kind of like dance music. The only songs I can consistently enjoy are "Public Pervert" and "C'mere". Every once in a while though, I really feel their sound, and it all sounds good. Interpol and I have a bit of a love/hate relationship.

Kid_A, for Our Love To Admire, I'd recommend starting with "Rest My Chemistry" as it clearly echoes of their previous albums. Then go with "No 'I' In Threesome" - I like this song perhaps solely for the subject matter of a bored couple wanting to try something new. You just don't find that topic covered often. Lastly, there's something I like about the mood and pacing of "The Lighthouse". It's relaxing, but hints at ominous undertones at the same time.

Turn on the Bright Lights is widely thought of to be their best album by far. I really like it and haven't bothered listening to the other albums because everyone says the other two just can't compare at all.

It's true. Antics comes close but OLTA is leagues away. It's really similar to Franz Ferdinand. A really stunning debut album followed up by albums that just can't match it.

I'm completely with The Virus on this one. They provide a great mood but this isn't a band I'm always up for listening to.

Totally wrong :D

Antics isn't far off, just a different mood.
