This band is just something I`ve recently come across and they`ve taken Power metal to something completely different. They actually sound exactly like pirates (especially the singer). I think it`s pretty cool what they`ve done.
Here`s a link to one of their songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbPgaReS2xc&feature=related
I like that they`re something completely different. I`ve never heard anything like this before so I think it`s pretty cool.
Anyone else listen to them or any kind of Pirate-themed Power & Folk metal

That's fantastic :D Much better than I thought it would be. I might even look into getting their album.
In the meantime I'll be on the lookout (from the crow's nest, of course) for some ninja metal.

I suggest checking out Turisas. They're currently on tour (or were on tour) with Dragonforce, and they kick utter ass. I think they're more folk metal, but I don't really know. I do know they have a violinist and accordian player in addition to the traditional metal band set up. In total, they have 6 members.
By the way, where's the Ninja metal?

yeah, i first heard these guys when i saw them at the Bloodstock Open Air festival in August. i really enjoyed their set, which was probably the most fun of the whole weekend. i went straight out and bought Captain Morgan's Revenge, and love it. their new album should be out in the near future, so i shall be looking forward to that.

It's more known as Battle or Viking Metal, but I would suggest checking them out if you like Alestorm.
Alestorm are a good band and are one of a growing number of gimmick bands. I heard about them when they were Battleheart but never really listened to them that much though Captain Morgan's Revenge gets a spin from me every now and then.

Almost as soon as I finished listening to Over The Seas I called my local music store and ordered Captain Morgan's Revenge. Folk metal in general is probably one of the best damn things to happen to Metal since Metallica. I can only hope this trend continues, and as I see it, as Thrash and Hair Metal were big in the 80's and Nu Metal was big in the 90's, Prog, Death, Hard/Metalcore and Extreme Metal are big in this decade, Folk Metal may take over the next decade.
Or at least I can hope so.

I heard the song "Captain Morgan's Revenge" and didn't really like it that much. Is the rest of their music very similar to that?

Even though a lot of it is similar, I thought that it was one of the two weaker tracks on the disc. I'd suggest listening to just about any other song from the album.

Over The Seas was a great song to start with.
P.S.- Hey Spiner- check the Avatar, yo.

Good instrumentation. A little gimmicky, but at least they aren't another band trying to convince us they're warlocks or generally the 'baddest muthas in The Valley'.
I'd suggest Gogol Bordello to fans of folk-influenced hard music. They're Gypsy Punk, with a very talented violinist, and an accordion player.

Alestorm are a local band to me and seem to be doing well for themselves. I'm not really into the whole Power Metal pantheon but their tunes are quite catchy.

Man this is awesome. I got hold of a copy from my friend (who never told me about them, what a jerk) and i love them. Thanks for sharing!

Wow... I dislike most power metal as well, but this is quite awesome. The tunes are catchy and even the insane guitar solos, which I hate in power metal, are pretty sweet.

I heard them on the MetalHammer awards and don't like them. Gotta hand it to them though for coming up with quite an orginal sound, it's just not my thing.
