to be completely honest i can't help but love this song. the guy's got balls to take this big a departure from the stuff he's traditionally done.

I love Chris Cornell. Soundgarden's my second favorite band and I love how he used to put his entire voice into every song. Then after Down on the Upside it deteriorated. Though I didn't mind Audioslave I like the path he's taken now. He cant smash balls with his eight Octave voice anymore so I find that doing something new and taking himself in a new direction is nice. Not to mention Timbaland is a very good producer.

If you ask me, the real star of this track is Timbaland. Right off the bat, I could tell it was him behind the wheel. Cornell has a distinctive voice, but it's overshadowed here, and he's clearly pulling off Timbaland's style rather than the other way around. Lots of voice effects too; Cornell is more of a 'featured performer'.

Cornell is definitely one of the most versatile singers of the last decade. The guy can perform well in virtually any genre, and I agree with the_virus' opinion that it's Cornell adapting to Timbaland and using his style rather than vice-versa.

Still, it's a good performance from a great artist.

Yeah, Chris Cornell is pretty awesome. I've heard "Rusty Cage", but I love Johnny Cash's version a little bit more.

and I had to sing "Black Hole Sun" for "Rock Band" once.

which was pretty fun

Hm, I don't know, I'm a big Cornell fan as well, even his brief Temple of the Dog stuff. But I didn't like this song.

The stuff off his previous album was pretty good, and he's pretty brave to do this, but it stinks of what made me hate Gwen Stefani. Meaning, a fantastic performer from the 90's and even early into the new century starting to try and reinvent themselves. She couldn't pull it off at all, and it doesn't sound like he's doing a good job of it right now either.

I LOVED Audioslave, one of my favorites, and Soundgarden had such a good sound, and even his last album was good, but this just seems wrong for him. And I respect Timbaland, but it's not a good mix, him and Cornell. Gutsy, but it didn't pay off.

An 8 octave voice mr. rpg king? I don't think that's humanly possible.

The song wasn't horrificly terrible, like I expected, but I still miss Cornell in his Soundgarden, Audioslave, or even Temple of the Dog settings. His self-titled work has been decent, but I really wish he would back to a stronger rock scene like his previous bands.

I know that was a hyperbole.

Edit: A hyperbole that stems from the intro to the song "Loud Love".

Not that far fetched. I heard on the news this morning that Mariah Carey has a 5 or 6 octave range.

I love Chris Cornell, that handsome devil, and this song is strangely catchy (thanks Timbaland), but I will always remember Chris Cornell's solo career this way (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fp8fW__JkRE).

Weak beat IMO. I could produce that on Garage Band in minutes. The vocals are decent though. Although still a flop overall if you ask me.

I was never into Soundgarden much, but I always liked Cornell's voice. I like this.
