Irish Music

So I'm looking for some good Irish music to listen to. I hear some Irish songs every once and a while and I always love them, but I just thought to download some. So if anyone here knows of any bands, I don't have anything specific in mind. I just want to expand my musical horizons.

Gaelic Storm makes some great irish folk sounding music. I'd definitely recommend them.

I guess I'll recommend Flogging Molly seeing as they're the only Irish sounding band I know of. Though I think they're more rock than folk.

I suppose it depends on whether you're looking for bands from Ireland or traditional Irish music.

This band comes up a bit, but The Decemberists are modern Irish style band.

The Clancy Brothers. Also sometimes The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makhem. Clannad as well, Patrick Street, Arcady, Solas (who sing some tracks in Gaelic)

Look up Narada productions. Their website is wonky, but you can get some ideas on how to get traditional Irish music, mostly harp and other stringed instruments.

I'd assume you're looking for traditional, as...if a band fits into a 'common genre' the fact that they come from Ireland is irrelevant.

Also, it is the nature of folk/traditional music to have standards. That is to say...you might not be looking for an artist per se, just songs.

You're also going to find that Irish culture spills into the Maritimes, and has heavily influenced the music scene there. Great Big Sea is an easy example, as they cross into the pop charts, but also do renditions of traditional Newfoundland songs, a culture with heavy Irish influence.

Lastly, check out Loreena McKinnet. She's Canadian by birth, but her music has heavy Celtic and Arabic flavours.
