Well it's like RE4 in that it is a zombie based game, so if you don't want zombies or a horror based game then obviously it's not the game for you. It does have a very different focus to RE though. It is a lot more run and gun, a lot more 'back against the wall' fighting, and the co-operative element is unlike any game ever made. So if it's the general gameplay style and puzzle solving of RE that you don't want any more of, but you do want something horror based, then Left 4 Dead would seem ideal.

I have only played the demo, so can't comment on how consistent it is throughout, but the first two levels on the demo are exceptional. Really good atmosphere, solid controls, and an excellent co-operative element. I haven't actually read any reviews and will be buying the game.

It really depends on a couple of things. This game NEEDS online so if you don't have access to XBL or a decent enough connection to play the game on PC, I wouldn't even bother picking the game up.

That said, the game is much more fun when you're playing with friends. More often than not, playing a game with random people will make it so you end up with at least one annoying person on your team. Worse yet are the tkers. You can certainly play the game with random people, but like any game, friends = better.

The pc version is better. Especially after the SDK comes out, that means fan made levels, for free. Valve loves releasing free DLC for their pc games. I don't usually say this, because I'm a console sort of guy, but I can't imagine playing this on a console, you just need to aim so fast that a mouse is pretty much required. So if you have broadband and a pc with a decent graphics card (not even an outrageous one, just decent) get it for pc.

It really isn't. While both versions have the terrible lobby and matchmaking system, the PC version lets you also use the classical Steam server browser which doesn't let you set up a game in the beginning but it does give numerical pings and has the favourites tab so you can join a specific server and from there vote for another campaign. As far as I know, the xbox version has no such thing. The PC also overall has less bugs and is of course easier to play as an FPS.
Not to mention the already active modding community. The only reason Valve hasn't updated the PC version with SDK and versus for Dead Air and Death Toll is because they want to update simultaneously with the Xbox version.
