I was thinking we need a place to discuss the meanings of some of our favorite songs. Post the lyrics, and then let people discuss. Also please include the song title and artist.
'Being Everyone' by After Forever
"Who am I at night when my eyes are closed tight?
Who am I, and where, when eyes see far beyond?
Every border, every dream?
Every hidden memory?
Every nightmare, truth or dare, who do I see now?
Look at me!
Tell me what you see
Are we just being everyone?
Where am I; tell me what should go, what should stay
Where am I? Where am I? And where shall I go tonight?
Every night a different theme
Every time you're in a different dream
Am I me there?
What am I?
Who will I be now?
Look at me!
Tell me what you see
Are we just being everyone?
Look at me!
Tell me what you see
Are we just being everyone?
I cry
I fall
I love
I hate
I know many though no face ever stays
I breathe
I fly
I kill
I die
Though there's nothing that I know
No-one can recall where I have been or who I was
Look at me
Tell me what you see
Are we just being everyone?
Look at me!
Tell me what you see
Are we just being everyone?
Look at me!
Tell me what you see
It's me being everyone!"

'Being Everyone' by After Forever
"Who am I at night when my eyes are closed tight?
Who am I, and where, when eyes see far beyond? This tells me the person who wrote the lyrics doesn't understand REM.Every border, every dream?
Every hidden memory?
Every nightmare, truth or dare, who do I see now?
Look at me!
Tell me what you see
Are we just being everyone?Seriously, none of this makes sense. The first part just lists some deep-sounding truffle, the second part sounds exactly what some conforming non-conformist attention whore would say.Where am I; tell me what should go, what should stay
Where am I? Where am I? And where shall I go tonight?Someone needs to be told what to do, I see. Can't make their mind up. I'm guessing a female wrote this.Every night a different theme
Every time you're in a different dream
Am I me there?
What am I?
Who will I be now?Yet more nonsensical questions. "Am I me there?" is seriously sub-standard nursery rhyme prose.Look at me!
Tell me what you see
Are we just being everyone?
Look at me!
Tell me what you see
Are we just being everyone?
I cry
I fall
I love
I hate
I know many though no face ever stays
I breathe
I fly
I kill
I die
Though there's nothing that I know
No-one can recall where I have been or who I wasWell that's a fantastic list of mundane obvious traits that every human being is or experiences.Look at me
Tell me what you see
Are we just being everyone?
Look at me!
Tell me what you see
Are we just being everyone?
Look at me!
Tell me what you see
It's me being everyone!"Those three lines should be tattooed into this person's face so that everyone can avoid them.
Seriously this entire song made no sense, the lyrics are just ornamental fluff of no value at all. Trying to read some meaning, sincerity or integrity imbued in those words was like searching for intelligence in a peanut.

There's a website for this called SongMeanings.com, or something. Anyway, DO NOT paste entire song lyrics in here. If there are specific stanzas or phrases, that's OK. Otherwise, people can look up the lyrics themselves. You might also want to lead the discussion by giving your thoughts first, as the point of this thread is clearly not to let the lyrics speak for themselves.
In the case of "Being Everyone" I do think the lyrics speak for themselves, however.

Well, I've never heard the song, but reading it, the lyrics look a little shallow. Not much there. I guess it'd help if ya told me what you're getting from those words.
My favorite song happens to be "The Third World" by Immortal Technique. It's an indictment of centuries of imperialism, while at the same time, it highlights issues in the Third World that we often take for granted. These lyrics aren't subliminal, or even filled with smooth metaphors... It's just the cold facts spit out hard.

I never got what "Viva la Vida" by Coldplay meant. Here's some lyrics:
I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringing
Roman cavalry cries a-singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
Once you'd gone there was never,
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world...
I think its about leadership, but I can't be sure.

Fairly certain the song tells the story of a king (or someone similar) who loses his power due to regrettable circumstances, so I'd assume the chorus is about how he feels he will be accepted on a religious level.
Also the lyrics are:
For some reason I can't explain
Once you know there was never,
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world...
And the second time:
For some reason I can't explain
I know St Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world...

SongMeanings.net? I actually find it a fairly informative site.
One songs lyrics that I don't really understand is Enter Sandman by Metallica. The song seems upbeat from the start, but the lyrics seem to be a bit darker.
Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight
Those lines give me the impression that the child in the song has something to be worried about that is real, unlike things that may happen in his dream. Maybe a pedophile or he's been kidnapped?
Something's wrong, shut the light
Heavy thoughts tonight
And they aren't of snow white
Most children dream of things that they consider awesome, but this child doesn't have that option.
Anyone else think the same thing about this song? Or do I just have a dark mind?

The song's just about having bad dreams. I doubt there are any hidden depths. The truck smashing through a bed in the video hammers home the point.
