LISTEN TO IT!!! (http://www.myspace.com/atomship)

Hi guys,

These guys are a God send to a rock genre stagnating under the weight of pop punk, Tool and Nirvana wannabes, and just otherwise useless bands. Taking influences like Tool, Rush, Yes, Dream Theatre and countless other metal and prog rock bands, have woven the best elements of the sound from these groups into something damn good.

I found Atomship by accident after picking up the Punisher Soundtrack and hearing the acoustic piece called "Time For People." I decided to pick up their album after finding out when it was released. I bought it off amazon and I was not fully prepared for what I was about to hear.

Crash of 47 just blew me away. Every song on the CD was nearly flawless awesome unrelenting rock that demands full attention from first to last. "Pencil Fight" is the first single but the best song has to be "Aliens". "Time For People", "Mothra", "Withered" and "Plastic People" are all stand out songs as well. The whole album is incredible and the only album I can never get bored off even after listening to it time after time. This is also the only album I will never skip a track on, everything is a masterpiece.

Joey Culver has an incredible voice which compliments these songs perfectly. At times he is sinister and at others he's almost soulful, he definitely is a singer to be reckoned with. The drummer is a sick technical mastermind and their guitarist has talent to spare.

Shame they're no longer any more but I suggest you listen to, and pick up, the album as you will not forget it.

The review of each song

1. Day of Daze. Heavy, yet melodic opener. The lyrics are quite interesting. The chorus delivers a heavy, catchy vibe that will stick in your head and won't leave for a while (which is good). I really like how the verses give a light, glittering feel to the overall sound. 9/10

2. Mothra. Wow. This is comes close to deserving of the "Best Track" award for this album. This truly proves Atomship can play, but creating a progressive track that changes tempos like socks and references Godzilla. How can you go wrong with that? Quite an epic song and they go crazy at the end (which is really sweet). The double-bass at the end is a great touch. 10/10

3. Dragonfly. One of my favourites. The chorus gets me, with lyrics I wish I could've conceived. Joey's vocals on this one soar, and you'll find yourself playing this one over and over. This one starts a little soft, but builds to a dramatic climax. 10/10

4. Pencil Fight. The first single off the album is well deserving of the honour. The piano-like intro is especially cool. This song builds very well, coming to an epic climax. Not the best song, but very well written one. 8/10

5. Withered. The second single is a slow acoustic song that is just breathtaking. Beautiful. The lyrics convey such deep emotion, and Joey's voice is so soothing. Brilliant. 9/10

6. Agent Orange. Withered dives straight into Agent Orange, which is a complicated track that you have to hear to understand truly. The end sure is good, where they pump out some heavy riffs and some awesome drumming. 8/10

7. Time For People. The first Atomship song I heard, and it still blows me away. The pure, slow emotion exhibited by this one leaves me breathless. Slow and heavy, emotional and intelligent. The acoustic intro that leads into the heavy riffs definitely deserve props. Very nice. 8/10

8. Aliens. This one really has a spacey feel to it. Obviously though, considering it's about aliens. Nice and heavy for a mid-album crunch and just gets you, you’ll be singing “we are the aliens” to yourself for ages. 10/10

9. Whitfield. The chorus of this song is one of the best parts on the entire album. Whitfield opens with some verses that drive at a medium-fast pace, but the chorus slows it down to a halt and just blows away the listener with heartfelt lyrics and gut-wrenching vocals. Amazing audio experience. 9/10

10. Friends. A nice heavy one for the near end of the album. Another spacey feel is instilled into this one, and it creates a strong consistency through the song. The lyrics are really sad: I'm guessing they're about some of his friends who drowned when he was a child. The emotion is shown very well. 8/10

11. Plastic People. Great closer! The music is eerie and haunting, and the vocals simply add more to it. It builds up for a climactic end, then softly fades away. 8/10

I was a bit skeptical at first, but they aren't half bad. I liked Pencil Fight, listening to Dragonfly now.

Withered is a nice song*, but I shall forever associate Atomship with endless Amazon reviews raving about how "the druMMEr is ToTalLLy bETTEr than DanNy frOM ToOL" and other such nonsense. I seem to remember them being part of the "Other people who purchased this also purchased...." loop with Depswa (2AaD!!! That's right I'm drunk) and Crossfade etc. etc. Memories. I love it.

* I still love the "don't you worry she's not breathing" line...

The drummer's very good, better than Danny, who knows... I'd proabbly say they're on par TBH.

Also yup, Depswa... love that band hence the Screen name. Very few people know that, which is a shame because the album (and song) are preety sweet tracks.

Check them out! (http://www.myspace.com/depswa)

Listen to Alien, Agent Orange or Mothra if you can.... then you'll see how truly awesome this band can be.

QFT. I was so gutted when they slipt as I so wanted some more songs and their new band (Atomship Down) just does not cut the mustard compared with this stuff.

I listened to Pencil Fight, Mothra, Alien, Dragonfly, and withered. I can honestly see why they say the drummer is good cause this guy is amazing. He's probably the best member of the band. Thanks for mention this band, TAaaD, Pencil Fight was one of my favorite songs a year ago but I never knew who did it or what it's called. It shall now reside in my iTunes library along with a few others.
