So I'm looking for music for a halloween gathering. I'd like to make some mix cds. I have the usual:
The Monster Mash
I Put A Spell On You
Thriller
etc etc

now I need the not-so-usual. I'd love to hear some surf rock that talks about zombies & graveyards and whatnot. Know what I mean? I know there are a bunch of bands like that, but I don't know names or decent songs to check out.

Help?

No Ghostbusters theme, the radio stations in my area play that every Halloween. You might want to consider it.

The Monster Mash

That's an awesome song.

Also, I doubt this is what you're looking for, but you could always try "Halloween" by Helloween. Not exactly the type of music you want I'm sure, but certainly about Halloween ;)

You could also take another approach and try to find scary songs, rather than all songs discussing Halloween themes. For example, "Steven" by Alice Cooper would probably scare some people the first time they hear it (or freak them out)

The Halloween movie theme. That is all.

"This is Hallowe'en" from The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack.

Or, if you'd prefer, Marilyn Manson has done a version of it.

That's an awesome song.

Word.

Mannheim Steamroller has some Halloween albums out, might want to check those out. Also there this. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcXA_pkfLso) Might get some lulz the first time it's played.

I don't really listen to many Halloween songs as local radio stations don't play any Halloween somgs aside from the Monster Mash which every station plays.

Alice Cooper:
Feed my Frankenstein
Welcome to my Nightmare

In fact, just get a DVD of Alice Cooper live. He puts on some incredible live shows and has some wicked stage set-ups and costumes. I saw him live once, it changed my life!

Just queue up some Sunn0))) records. Can't think of anything spookier than some noise/drone/doom.

If you don't mind adding calypso to your Halloween playlist, try Zombie Jamboree, originally sung by Harry Belafonte. There are many versions of this song, but I like mine Rockapella.

You could also try Teenage Frankenstein, as well as He's Back (The Man Behind The Mask). The second song I'm pretty sure is from sort of scary movie.

And seconding the Alice Cooper dvd/him being awesome live.

Seek out a punk band called The Creeps. They have a song called "In The Graveyard (They're Coming To Get Me)" it pretty much is exactly what you're looking for. It's about a gravedigger paranoid about the dead coming to eat his brains. Done in a grungy, punky style.

You could also include some Opeth, I'd suggest specifically "Death Whispered A Lullaby"

Queens of the Stone Age's Lullabyes To Paralyze has quite a sinister edge to it. Thinking specifically of "Burn The Witch" or "The Mosquito Song" off Songs For the Deaf.

Grendel is a notable industrial/electronica group. Look up "Zombienation (v2k5)" it's a remix of the original "Kernkraft 400" by Zombie Nation. Anyway, it has mock PSAs worked in, as if a zombie outbreak is occuring.

The Godsmack song "Vampires" is largely instrumental, but also has those documentary-like clips about humanity's preoccupation with the occult.

Another band that might fit the Halloween theme is Theatres Des Vampires. Just about any song, but if I had to recommend any, the two that spring to mind are "My Lullaby" and "Angel of Lust", but like I said just about any song from them.

Why not "For Those Who Died(Return To The Sabbat Mix)" from Cradle of Filth.
