This should come as no surprise as it was announced unofficially earlier, but we get new information! I'm watching the conference now. I just took notes as they came up. Here is the quick notes version. I will update and make it look nice after the conference is over!
EDIT:
Animal Crossing City Folk is the name.
2008 release date. No exact release date is confirmed.
Looks oldschool – Nintendo looks like they kept it plain and simple still, which is just the way it should be. The graphics are more crisp. That's no surprise seeing how Animal Crossing GCN was a N64 game and DS has N64 graphics.
The holidays shown were...
1) Bunny Day - I think this is like Easter. I saw a character dig up an egg from the ground.
2) Halloween
3) New Years
At least HOLIDAYS HAVE RETURNED!
There is a city!! The things shown in the city....
1) Auction site where you can see items for sale. Put up own items
2) Happy Room Acadamy store which lets you know what others are doing to their house.
3) Famous designer Gracie can be found at the city.
4) Harriet's salon is in city. You can choose to ut on a mask to look like your Mii.
You can write letters to other players and attach pictures. You can also send to cell phones, Wii message board, etc.
A New mic option called Wii Speak was introduced. It's not like a headset. It's basically a device that you set near you and the people that are visiting you can hear everyone talk in the room.
NOT a MMO from what I saw. It seems you can interact with other users, but there will not be thousands of players walking around the city.
Has a DS style. The town is shaped more like a world. There does not seem to be acres.

Hi guys been a while! Thanks Sonic, I cannot wait for this finally! Hopefully they will release more information about this soon! I also hope that there will be more holidays and a tie to the wii console friend codes rather than the game having one and the console having one...

Hi CoV! Welcome back.
------
Some more news...
Animal Crossing City Folk will be playable at E3. Expect a ton of impressions over the course of E3.
-----
Release date announced!
November 16, 2008. The Wii Speak device will be seperate for a retail price of $29.99. Ouch.
-----
First impressions!

So far I'm hearing it plays exactly like AC GCN and AC DS. I hope there's some new features in this game.
-----
There seems to be a movie theater located in the city. It remains unknown as to what you can actually view in the theater.

Awesome that's some great news... 'adds note to calendar for Nov 16' - Except the part about the wii speak thing... they should just create an adapter with headphone/mic jacks for the wii mote.... looks like its time to pull a SSB:B move and get into a 360 Halo lounge and chat... =)
EDIT: Looking at the video you posted Sonic, are we going to be allowed to get the monkeys non-hacked? B/c that would be awesome!

Yeah. It just seems like you have to mute the TV to use Wii Speak or else it will pick up the background music and sound effects.
I watched the trailer again and it seems that the dreaded watering can returns. Noooooooooooooooo!
What a pain... Watering the flowers. :(

What!!!??? NOOO!! I remember I eventually picked up all my hybrids and put them in the closet for safe keeping... I guess they are still there... 'Hates watering'
Well at least they added the city part right? =)

True, but from the impressions the city seems very small. They compared it to Animal Island from Animal Crossing GCN.

Well I'm hoping that it was only a small bit of the city as to not give too much away...

A bunch of new E3 footage!
http://media.wii.ign.com/media/748/748892/vids_1.html
This game is looking to play exactly like the GCN and DS game. In the village I noticed no differences between the two previous games. The background music was from AC GCN I believe, along with the town theme. The city looks OK, but I didn't notice any "secret areas" unless they blocked them off from the E3 audience.
I've heard that some of the text is exactly the same as the GCN version, such as when Nook greets you, etc.

More impressions!

The theater is Dr. Shrunk's place, who will teach you new emotions to express. There seems to be a DS to Wii connectivity feature. It's details remain unknown.

I'm starting to get very disappointed with the looks of this game. It seems that all they did is say "Hey, now you can play it on the Wii. Here's a couple features we added to keep ya busy."
The best news I've heard is that you can have 4 people in your house at once now...I mean, I like what they did, but...they just needed to add more. Hopefully they surprise us....and get rid of the cockroaches...

New information, courtesy of GoNintendo.
- Halloween has returned to the game
- WiiConnect 24 will send you new items
- the city has a theater that puts on comedy shows
- friends can visit the city while you aren’t there, and the other way around as well
- You are now able to create the front, back, and sleeves of your shirt
- once again, you can take photos, save them to an SD card, and send them to friends
- If you have a friend that leaves the town, the connection will disappear for everyone…just like Wild World
- you can transport your Wild World DS character to City Life to play as them. You can also bring data that represents all of your all of your items/collectables, and then visit Tom Nook in the Wii version to recollect them.
- You can take character data to your DS, move the data to a friend’s Wii, and visit a town that way. That’s for people that don’t have wifi at home.
- In Japan, you can take your DS to a download station to grab the new content for City Folk.
- the DLC is brand-new, not already on the disc
- There will be no NES titles available in City Folk
- There will be no interconnectivity with the Wii Forecast Channel, on real-time in-game weather.
- seasons are still inverted for souther hemisphere
-----
This is all very neat, except for this note:
- If you have a friend that leaves the town, the connection will disappear for everyone…just like Wild World
All I can say is, WHYYYY? This was my #1 hated feature of WW. I understand if the host turned off the power the connection will be lost, but if a visitor turns off the power, why must everyone be booted?

IGN this time..
We're live at Nintendo's 2008 E3 Developer Conference. Waiting. Not for any big revelations -- there won't be any, so manage your expectations -- but for a demo or demos of already-announced Wii titles.
It's supposed to start soon. We'll keep you posted. In the meantime, we're going to take a nap.
Still waiting. Journalists have taken seats. Lots of people are talking. The guys in front of us are discussing whether or not the new Batman movie will be good. We want to tell them that it will be, but we don't even know them and, anyway, there's no point.
Bozon is going playing The Conduit right now. That bastard.
NOA's Eric Walter has taken the stage front and center. He says they're going to start shortly. Thanks us all for coming. Going to have some great presentations, he says. No video allowed.
Bill Trinen from the Treehouse takes over.
First demo is Animal Crossing: City Folk, hosted by Mr. Eguchi. He takes the stage to intro the game.
"As you can see, my name is not Shigeru Miyamoto," he jokes. "Today, I'd like to introduce you to Animal Crossing: City Folk and Wii Sports Resort."
Boots up Animal Crossing. Says he's going to concentrate today on the new features added to the title. First, he notes that Halloween is coming back to the experience. And so is Jingle, the reindeer who visits during the holiday season. There are also new events. One is more or less an Easter event and another is a carnival-like event.
Talks about the collectibles, which work hand-in-hand with WiiConnect24. You have furniture and wallpapers in the beginning of the game, but through WiiConnect24 you will automatically receive new items in the game.
Gives a brief tour of the game's new city locale. There's a salon. An auction house. A fashion designer's store. Happy Room Academy. Comedy show.
His character takes the bus back to "E3 Ville," the name of his village.
Can use the Wi-Fi Connection to have multiplae people playing in the same town, and now they can use WiiSpeak. A mic placed on top of your television that enables you to communicate with other people. Entire families can communicate with each other using WiiSpeak since it will pick up anybody talking in the living room.
In City Folk, you can design different patterns and clothing. Now, you can create the front and back of your shirt, as well as each different sleeve, as unique pieces. You can also create hats and other accessories.
His character steps outside and he takes a photo of the new shirt he just made. These photos can be saved to SD card or sent to friends over the Wii Message Board. You can also send the pics to cell phones and computers.
Q&A Session
Q: In Animal Crossing Wild Word, if one person disconnected from the online experience, everybody else would suffer. Will the same be true of City Folk
A: Yeah. Same issues, he says.
Q: Will City Folk interact at all with a Nintendo Animal Crossing?
A: You can move your character from the DS version to the Wii game through a move function. All the items you gathered in the DS build will be able to come with you. Also, if you don't have Wi-Fi at your home, you can take City Folk's character data onto your DS, go to your friend's home and transfer it to their Wii. In Japan, you can take your DS to a hotspot to download Wi-Fi downloads.
Q: Can you clarify how downloads via WiiConnect24 will work? Will the data already be stored in-game and it'll just unlock or will it be brand new?
A: Brand new.
Q: In the GCN title, you could play NES games. What about the Wii version?
A: Unfortunately, no. Anything you have on the VC will have to be played on the VC. Want to keep them separate.
: Q: Will the game use the Wii Weather Channel for real-time weather data?
A: Thought about doing that, but didn't want to limit the experience to real seasons. If it's always raining in Seattle, it would always be raining in Animal Crossing. (Not sure why they couldn't just add an option to turn it on or off for gamers who would want it.)

I think it's neat you can transfer all your items from WW. My full catalog didn't go to waste. But, I feel like finding and collecting the new items will be much easier and faster because of this.
Jingle returns though !!

I'm watching some videos that I'll post up in a bit.
It seems Lyle is now the "manager" of the Happy Room Acadamy building. The video I'm watching also uses old music from the Animal Crossing games for the town background music.

July 24th, 2008, 05:44 PM
Oh, f*ck. Nintendo's done for. Messing up one of the most anticipated games of the year... They really didn't think this through, did they?
They need to use the weather channel! Like you said, Sonic, they needed to make an option to turn it on or off!
I think they need to implement the Virtual Console at least in some way.
For instance, if you had, say, a copy of Super Mario Bros. on your VC, they could give you some Mario-themed wallpapers and carpets.
If it was, say, Kirby you bought on the VC, then you could easily get a Kirby item. It wouldn't be that hard...
Another cool thing to do is use photos from the SD Card/Photo Channel to use for T-Shirts, Wallpaper, etc. That way, you could make your own wallpaper or use a cool texture!
Ooh, and we could've had MP3 support! Besides the normal K.K. Radio, (which I love,) we could've had anything!
CoV_Freak
July 26th, 2008, 12:50 PM
The weather Channel would be pointless to implement, I'm sure most people would have it off (specially if your in Texas) Days of heat and hardly any rain... And you would never get to experience snow =(
The VC would be kinda hard to implement... They would have to put in a lot of coding to sync it together - Lets say you buy something, you play the AC:CF, then move the VC game to your SD card and delete it from the Wii. Then the game would re-sync causing you to lose things wallpapers and stuff... Same with the photo Channel... It would work better if you had an account on the Wii that you could sync with the game... But Nintendo has yet to put that in...

Now that's better. Confirmation on ds-to-wii, ability to design sleeves + back is awesome. I take back everything I said.
Oh now I see what they meant by the connection disappearing. I thought it just meant that breif thing that says "this player is leaving".

They should have just called this game Animal Crossing GCN with a city. The music is recycled, and the text that Nook says looks SO familiar from the GCN game. I'm going to go back to the GCN game soon and see if it's the same thing.

I liked the first two games...but really this game just feels a bit stale and it's not even out, I don't think I'll be picking it up unless it gets stellar reviews, which from all the recycled crap I'm seeing, It'll be lucky to average an 8.

The sad thing is it will sell a TON. Nintendo reached a whole new audience with the Wii and the majority of those people have never played Animal Crossing so this will be their first experience.
Maybe things will change but at the time this seems like a slap in the face to the core/veteran gamers.

IGN Impressions:
Animal Crossing: City Folk
- It’s a polished DS game
- GameCube graphics, maybe even DS graphics
- Eguchi was surprised when he was told the graphics look like GCN/DS
- Scrolling world
- No gestures for chopping down trees or anything
- Could have been Wii’s version of home - Matt was looking forward to a deeper experience
- City looks gimped - only about four stores
- Craig wonders what is new with the game
- Could end up being a great game, but not much different
I have also read that Nintendo still has some surprises in store for Online Play.

- Zipper T. Bunny is a new character for ‘Bunny Day’
- DLC “We’re thinking of a service where you download new furniture, new wallpaper designs… that sort of thing,”

Animal Crossing City Folk Trailer:
http://www.wipido.com/video/9AmPhWdvFhBo
Key Information:
If life were an endless vacation, what would you do? Go fishing, collect shells or watch fireworks with friends? Build a snowman, exchange presents with family or decorate your house for the holidays? Take a trip to the city, go on a shopping spree or visit friends from all over the globe? In Animal Crossing: City Folk, life moves at a relaxed pace, but the world brims with endless possibilities.
* There’s always something new to do. In the living, breathing world of Animal Crossing: City Folk, days and seasons pass in real time, so there’s always something to discover. Catch fireflies in the summer, go trick-or-treating on Halloween or hunt for eggs on Bunny Day. If you’re in the mood for something a little faster paced, take a bus to a new urban city area that’s unique to Animal Crossing: City Folk. There you can catch a show at the theater or check out the sales at Gracie’s boutique. But if you don’t show your face back home for too long, your neighbors will miss you.
* Up to four people from your household can live and work together to build the perfect town. Design clothes and patterns, write letters and post messages on the bulletin board for each other, or invite up to three friends to visit your town using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. With the new WiiSpeak microphone, it’s like you’re all in the same room. The microphone sits atop the sensor bar and picks up the conversation of everyone in the room to encourage a more inclusive experience.
* Get to know your neighbors. The heart of Animal Crossing: City Folk is building relationships with the animals in your town as well as with other players. Befriend your animal neighbors by exchanging letters, gifts and favors. Animals can also move from town to town, bringing their memories and stories from their old towns with them. And since animals are notoriously loose-lipped, they spill all the juicy details.
* Express your personal style. Customize your town, your house and yourself by collecting bugs, fish, fossils, art, furniture, clothes and accessories. You can also go to the salon in the city to change your hairstyle and get a Mii™ makeover. Plus, if you design clothes in the tailor’s shop, animals will wear them and maybe even bring them to other towns.
Also be sure to check out the new DS design and new game announcements for the Wii and DS. Pretty good stuff has been released over the past 24 hours!

I just reserved the game today. I'm really looking forward to it. I like the whole city idea and how it's gonna have the DS world-shape to it. And I'm glad there's seperate houses. One house was so annoying. I think it's going to be a lot like the first Animal Crossing, but there's gonna be a ton of more features, like Wi-Fi and the new city layout and such. So I definitely don't think it's that big of a deal.
I've actually kinda got back into WW again because you get to transfer your character and such, and that's pretty cool.
Oh snap, sorry if I bumped this. It was like, the fourth thread from the top and I didn't even notice it was more than a month old.
SonicGCT
November 8th, 2008, 04:43 PM
Don't worry about bumping old threads.
Yeah, I've pre-ordered my copy too. I am sure it will be an awesome game like the previous two, but I am still concerned about City Folk due to the lack of new material. It is literally a mash of GCN and Wild World. Even the music is ripped straight from Wild World.
The DS-to-Wii is neat. I am going to use my DS character in City Folk, but I'm not transferring my catalog. The fun in AC is finding/buying/selling/trading the items!
We'll see how the game turns out to be soon enough.
Rob
November 8th, 2008, 05:05 PM
Yeah I know, I was thinking that transferring items from DS to Wii is so gonna be so dumb and not fair at all because soo many people hacked into WW and cheated to get all the rare items. The whole point of the game is to like, start over and get all the items yourelf and such.
And what's the whole thing about the city? I'm kinda confused. So you have a town, just like the two previous games, and then you have your own city too?
SonicGCT
November 8th, 2008, 07:46 PM
Yeah. The city is basically a place to store the special visitors. I'm not really seeing the point of the city. Instead of the visitors coming to your town, (which gives sort of an element of surprise for each day) you visit the special visitors.
Rob
November 8th, 2008, 10:08 PM
Oh ok, well I guess it's just to change it up a bit from the past two games and something else to do for a change. So how do you exactly get to the city? I was watching some videos of the game on YouTube, and it looked like you took a bus there. (?) I'm guessing the bus replaces the gate from WW and the train from GCN?
SonicGCT
November 9th, 2008, 02:31 AM
Yeah, you take a bus. The town gates are still there though. The "bus station" is located in front of the town gates.
