Was this game really necessary to the series? It was a game about an optional character. They could have made it about Cloud or Barret at least. Hell, even Tifa. It was a good game, no doubt. I liked it alot. But it was a first person/third person shooter FINAL FANTASY game.
Anybody else feel the same? :bashhead:

If you use that idea, Vincent and Yuffie shouldn't have been in AC. and it was designed to fill in Vincent's backstory... same way Crisis Core was about Zack's backstory.
Besides, I thought it was a good game.

But Zack is a main character in the saga. Yuffie and Vincent are not. Well, I guess Dirge is like a game for misfit FF7 characters. lol

Zack was on screen in FF7 and AC for about 10 minutes maximum.

Yes but in Crisis Core, he is revealed to be quite the main man. He in a sense MADE Cloud what he is now. Zach is a backbone to FF7.

Zack didn't save the world though, like Vincent did.

OHHH. I see. Vincent saved the world so he is Mr. Bigshot? If Zack didn't make Cloud who he is, Cloud couldn't have fought Sephiroth to save the world the first time so that there was a world for Vincent to save a second time.Ha.

DoC wasn't at all necessary, but I welcomed it. If we're going to compare it to Crisis Core, the main difference is we know from VII who Zack is, what he did, and how his story ended. That's a limiting factor with prequels. DoC is a sequel so there are many more opportunities to develop Vincent and his story far beyond what we discover about him in the main game.
Yes, Vincent is an optional character, but it would appear by the mere existence of DoC he has fans that wanted to learn more about how he came to be in a basement in Nibelheim, and the events behind his powers.

I was very happy with DoC, honestly. I didn't like the ending much, but a shooter game involving characters I actually like (as opposed to army FPSes and crap) and know the background behind. I've been wondering about Vincent's background for a while, actually. Just barely got around to beating it.
Anyway, I thought that the story revolving a bit around Chaos was.. ehh. And the bits about the mental network whatever stuff wasn't the best. The very last fight was far too easy with Death Penalty, too. I didn't enjoy it after the initial battle against Weiss.
What I'm getting at is the game isn't perfect. Duh. Vincent saving the world didn't seem like the best option, since Cloud did it every other time. But hey, he's the main character, saving the world happens a lot for them. The story was interesting, the gameplay was enjoyable. There were a few dull areas, but I'm very glad they made the game.

I'm glad they made it since Vincent is a badass, but I just wish they did a better job of it. It was really an average game in the end but it was pretty cool. The ending (assuming you collected all the G reports) means that they still have to continue the story though and since they said AC was the end of Cloud's story and Dirge was the end of Vincent's story I wonder who they're going to get to be the main character in the next game and when they're going to announce it.

Where did you read it was the end of their stories? I can't think who they will focus on if there is another sequel. Cloud and Tifa are running Strife Delivery service, Barret has found oil and Cid is doing whatever he wants in his ship. That leaves Yuffie, who was last seen with Reeve in DoC, and Nanaki. Anything could happen to him in the 498 years between the end of DoC and the next time we see him, but judging by the lack of screen time he was given in AC and DoC I doubt it would be him.

I forgot where I read it but I know that it was in an interview with one of the headhonchos there (I'm not really good with the names of the FF team members). They said that AC was the end of Cloud's story and that Dirge told and finished Vincent's story. As to where I read it, it could have been EGM or GI but then again it could've been a number of other places. It was a long time back which is why I can't remember exactly where it was.

Do the names Tetsuya Nomura, Kazushige Nojima or Yoshinori Kitase ring any bells? If it came from any of them it may be true, but if it appeared in EGM without a source, I don't trust it. After all, they're the ones who said there'd definitely be a remake.

It was an actual interview I read and they said their name it was I just really can't remember it was so long ago. I was a day or two away from beating DoC when I read the article and once I got the secret ending I said to myself "Wait if Cloud and Vincent's story is over then who is going to continue in the next entry?" That's really the only reason I remembered what the article said cause I've been waiting for news of the next game.
