I'm here to talk about glaucoma. And my chance of getting it.

You see, my father has it. His mother had it. Her father and mother had it. I have no idea farther back then that.

But, (as far as I know) no one on my mom's side had/has it.

If anyone knows about glaucoma and treating/preventing/diagnosing options, it would be much appreciated.

My little brother had Glaucoma when he was born. It isn't necessarily genetic because no one in my family ever had it though it can be. If you start to experience any sort of pain or irritation in one of your eyes see a specialist. As far as I know it isn't really preventable. The only thing you can do is protect your eyes from the sun by wearing UV Protection sunglasses and not irritating your eyes. It affects 1 in 200 people within the ages of birth and fifty. It is more common with people of African descent and those with diabetes. It is treatable with drugs and sometimes surgery is necessary. To be on the safe side go in for a eye exam about twice a year (which you should do anyways).
