I'm looking for an in-depth explanation on breeding for IVs. I have started projects with IV breeding and I get the basic idea of it, but I can't find any good walkthroughs or tutorials. I was hoping somebody can give me some pointers on the whole process.

i believe a maximum of two IVs can be passed on from each parent. the stat in which they are are random i beieve.

i wouldn't have a clue on how to determine a method for it.

The only real way to do so is to focus on the stats you want good IVs for and keep trying in THOSE stats until you get something you like.

IV breeding is REALLY hard and will take FOREVER. You're better off focusing on EV training, since that actually matters (a 30 point difference is nothing compared to what EV training can do for a stat).

EV training is easy. I can get a Pokemon fully EV trained by level 13. But IV training presents a new challenge.

I have an example: My current project is a Sneasel that I am IV training as Adamant with full Attack and Speed IV's. I have bred an Adamant Sneasel and I am going to breed that with a Ditto that has perfect Speed IVs. That would give me an end result of a Sneasel with perfect Speed IV. Right?

Eventually. The IVs passed down from the parents are picked at random. Also, if a Ditto is ever involved, only Ditto can pass a nature and only with Everstone.

theoretically; but since when in lif is anything simple?

Smogon has a sweet breeding guide somewhere, I'd link you if I had it. IVs are generally something worth worrying about. 3 IVs is the average passed.

Smogon is what inspired me to start IV breeding actually, but the guides they had kind of confused me. But I'm just going to give up on it. I thought it would be fun but Pokemon is a game, not a project...

IV breeding is just continually breeding and re-breeding, possibly breeding offspring with their parents (:-\) if the IVs of the offspring are better than those of the previous parent, until you get the IVs that you want. It's a boring process and can take quite a while, since the IVs that are passed down are selected randomly and so there is no guarantee you'll inherit the IV(s) that you want, and you also need to get the right nature (although Everstone helps here).

With the right Dittos and practice (and Quick Hatch), you can breed in a few hours, but generally most sane people will kinda get bored with it. And by kinda I mean extremely.

Yeah, forgot to mention Dittos. It becomes useful when you're a serious breeder to have Dittos with, say, a Jolly nature and (near) perfect IVs in Attack and Speed, for breeding physical sweepers, or a Timid nature and (near) perfect IVs in SAtk and Speed, for breeding special sweepers.

This is a good opportunity to clear false hints out of my breeding guide library. So, here I have a tip that says that if both Ditto AND the mother Pokémon are holding Everstones while breeding, the baby has 50% chance of inheriting either parent's nature.

And that Ditto is the one who usually passes natures, whether the other parent is female, male or genderless. However, if no Ditto is involved, female takes Ditto's place. Nature passing, of course, requires Everstone in every case.

And of course I forgot to ask the question I had in mind. Is the information above correct or false?
