What level does it evolve at? Do I need a stone? what is a good item for it 2 have?

Trapinch evolves into Vibrava at level 35 and Vibrava evolves into Flygon at level 45.

I don't know about an item for Trapinch, but once you get a Flygon, try Choice Band with this set:

Don't use Faint Attack or (ugh) Sand Tomb on Flygon, it has better things to be doing. Go for:

The reason would be to get past the common steel walls...especially those who are unaffected by EQ like Skarmory and Bronzong.

The reason for a Fire move is so that you get more type coverage; you can hit more Pokémon for more effective damage.

Well, basically that's just Skarmory and Bronzong you're using the Fire move for (well it's also good paired with Ground STAB to hit those Bug and Grass types harder as well as stop Tangrowth from walling you).
