A good team with lots of SE moves at level 55 or so it a safe bet. I used stuff like Medicham and Gengar which have large (Sp)Atk stats and lots of moves. It's personal preference really, just don't go in with like 6 Fire types or something stupid like that and you'll be fine.

I did it with my starter... which is probably your best PKMN next to Dialga/Palkia. So... I had Infernape, Luxray, Dialga, Golduck, Aerodactyl (my bro gave it to me as an egg, raised from Lv.01), and my HM slave Bibarel... only used the Bibarel as a freebie to heal my other PKMN. I think that they were Lvs. 52-61 or something like that.

First up is a Bug-type. Grab something with Fire (Infernape) or Flying (Staraptor) and you'll be good. Just make sure you have something with Earthquake for the Drapion and your day won't be too long.
Next is a Ground-type. Ice and Water both work here, but Grass is going to be THE best type for this one. I think there's a Steelix, so you'll still want someone with Surf or maybe even Focus Blast attached.
The third guy's the Fire dude you met before the 8th badge. Water's an obvious good one, Ground and Rock work even better. Rock's best as your lead-in because it resists Rapidash's Flare Blitz AND Bounce (which it seems to love using).
Last is the Psychic, Lucian. Ghost moves are the best here, since they tag the Medicham he's got as well as the non-Physical Psychics here. Dark moves work as well, Bug isn't so hot because of the fact that Psychic > Heracross.
After you get them out of the way, you've got to challenge Cynthia. She leads off with a Spiritomb (annoying bastard). This literally has no weaks, so you're going to have to kill it slowly. I like using Taunt against it so that he's got to face you with attacks. After that, Leech Seed, burning, almost any attack type (but he's immune to Normal, Fighting, and Psychic) is gonna be OK. Let's see .. there's a Milotic (which I find to always be the hardest to kill, unless you didn't get your Taunt-user killed), Garchomp (Ice Beam/Ice Punch him once and he's toast, but he's at 66), Gastrodon (Energy Ball kills this thing DEAD, but Grass Knot's almost useless), and two other pokemon you probably don't care about are also present. Good luck.

A good team with lots of SE moves at level 55 or so it a safe bet.
Or (below)average team with SE moves at lv.45 and higher, support provided by medicines and battle items. (That was, though, when I had no clue what to expect in the League.)
What do you have in your team now? A good variety of types both in moves and in monsters themselves are most often the key to the victory.

When I first went through, I had an Empoleon, Rapidash, Staraptor, Luxray, Graveler, and Lucario. Mostly I find I use my Empoleon and Rapidash. I think I was around level 45. If you use all your money on potions and stuff, it works out fine.

Floatzel: take out Surf, teach him Waterfall. Ice Beam, you don't really need since his special attack is only meh, but it'll do for now.
Azelf: take out Confusion .. you already have Extrasensory. Learn him Thunderbolt, if you already have the TM. Your optimal setup is gonna be: Psychic, Thunderbolt, Flamethrower, and either Nasty Plot or Explosion.
Lucario: take out Iron Tail, put in Dark Pulse. Also, take out that Rock Climb and put in Dragon Pulse.
Staravia: NO. Level him up just once and let him evolve. He'll learn Brave Bird as Staraptor. Go back and teach him Close Combat via Heart Scale and U-Turn via TM.
Dialga and Macargo, I just don't like using them, but oh well.
