View Full Version : This is ridiculous. (Need help in catching Beldum.)

Today I got a Beldum swarm on route 228. It's not hard to find those little buggers, but...

Have they changed the catching rate, by any chance? I've met +20 Beldums, but never managed to catch any. I've used Pokéballs, Great Balls, Ultra Balls, Quick Balls and Timer Balls, weakened Beldum to yellow and/or red health (or Beldum weakens itself by using Take Down or Struggle), froze one (luck?), raised my monsters' speed, defence and evasiveness, and sent out my ace card, a traded lv.100 Salamence. Nothing seems to work, and I'm desperate. (My party includes Lucario, Staraptor, Weavile, Luxray and Gastrodon, all lv.55, plus starter Torterra lv.63/Salamence lv.100)

Status ailments might work, but only my main team is above lv.50 (wild Beldums are mostly at lv.53), and none of them knows moves that may make the foe fall asleep, confused, paralyzed, etc. So, I should choose something and raise it big enough during this day and raise funds to buy more balls. Ideas?

Is there something I'm missing, a secret catching method? Trainers on the little battle island were easy to defeat, but wild monsters kick my butt on their daily basis. I never knew that beating the E4 at relatively low levels would make life this hard. Even the very basics of the game causing me trouble... I'm losing my confidence.

Try using a pokemon with False swipe and then Ice or sleep and then use an Ultra ball,or better, set time to like 2am and then use those Dark balls.False Swipe can be obtained in Veilstone department store for like 5k pokedollars.

Hope that helped...

Beldum is extremely difficult to catch wild. Your best bet is to let it gradually weaken itself with Take Down, which is its only move, and keep chucking Ultra Ball (or Dusk Balls if it's night). Even then, it's still hard to catch.

False Swipe won't help any because of Take Down's recoil damage, and that's the only move Beldum knows. It's not easy to freeze a Pokémon, there isn't a move for it. And I have never changed time in my Pearl (and never will) so I'll just wait for nightfall and buy Dusk Balls. That might even work.

Hmm, I'll try the popular combination of sleep, False Swipe and balls with decent catch rate. Any more suggestions?

Oh right,Beldum has Take down.

I don't know if this is helpfull but you might ask someone to hack or someone who has load of them to give you a MasterBall.

I hope my useless help helped.

That's exactly what I've been doing the last 5 hours. Is it really that hard?

And there I was thinking that I must've gone crazy when even the legendary catching in D/P seemed a lot easier than filling my dex with Beldum's data.

False swipe will help 2 an extent with beldum just wait till night and use dusk balls. I waited and caught 4 if want one let me know.

I have a lv.100 trained jolly metagross if you want? but back on subject, it's much easier to migrate one from emerald, failing that, pick up a pokemon with sleep powder and a lot of speed, get in and sleep it real quick. keep chucking ultra balls while it's asleep. repat this. if it fails, after about 20 turns, timer balls should come in handy.

Argh, I missed the swarm. I guess I'll have to transfer one from Ruby. Or Sapphire. Or Emerald. Thanks for trade offers, but my Wi-Fi connection hasn't been working lately due to some network trouble, and I've been too lazy to fix it.

Off Topic: Funny, I got this déjŕ vu feeling. As if I had complained about the exact same thing earlier, and got similar responses.

Kricketune has False Swipe and Sing, so as long as you can predict that FS won't even approach 1 HP, he can be helpful.

Beldum is a huge bitch to catch, you could always clone a Master Ball if you need to. Dusk Balls at night, Timer Balls if you've been out for >20 turns, Repeat Balls if you used to have one (as in "caught" in your dex), and stuff. Hypnosis / Shadow Ball Gengar is good for wearing it down as the neutral Shadow Ball shouldn't OHKO unless you trained it too well.

Also, there is one instance of a reliable freezing move: A Serene grace Pokémon using Secret Power in the Snow part of DP. 60% freeze!
