I am in need of a flying type pokemon and I was thinking about using a murkrow and evolving it into a hunchkurow ( sp?) instead of using starly. What do you guys think?

Staraptor is definitely better then Honchkrow from looking at their stats. I would use Staraptor.

I'll go with staraptor then.

Yeah. Staraptor is REALLY good, especially for a bird (they're usually kind of crap, but not staraptor ... it even has a cool cry). AND IT LEARNS INTIMIDATE!!!

Try using Brave Bird, Close Combat, U-Turn, and either Roost or Pursuit. It's a little linear but man, the Pursuit set with a Choice Scarf can kill things DEAD.

although honchkrow can be pretty rad with its ability super luck, combined with night slash for stab and high crit-hits, and a scope lense. makes u get massive amounts of crits

Honchcrow is definitely the winner in this case.

How? Staraptors overall stats beat Honkrows by soo much. Can you explain how Honkrow is better?

fool. stats arent everything. mosets, typing, ability come into play as well

And Staraptor has a better move-set as well as arguably better (at least more reliable) typing and ability. Honchkrow is too slow and frail to work effectively without Sucker Punch, which doesn't have the nice crit rate. Staraptor is one of few Fliers with moves to hit Rock and Steel types in Close Combat, and he's very good at being a Choice Bander.

yes, i never stated my opinion on the matter, i was just saying that pokemon is not as simple as stat totals
also, honchkrow does have some pretty nice hp and a huge attack which would make sucker punch do wonders, and its still got a decent chance of some critskies if with superluck+scopelense. true you probably wouldnt want to use the scope lense if not combining with night slash, but its attack is so big it doesnt need to rely on crits

not saying its better than starraptor, its really a matter of opinion

Staraptor has 120 Base Attack. Honchkrow has 125. Not too much difference.
Staraptor has 100 Base Speed. Honchkrow has 71. Quite a difference.
Staraptor has 85/70/50 Defences with Intimidate. Honchkrow has 100/52/52. Your choice there.

Now for movepool:

Staraptor has two STAB 120BP moves, as well as another 120BP move which hits two common types which resist its STABs super effectively. Honchkrow has...not that much, to be honest. Sucker Punch and Pursuit are nice, but that's about it. Crithax could be useful, but it's very luck-dependent.

Both take 25% from Stealth Rock.

Honchkrow can't really do anything that Staraptor can't, apart from Sucker Punch (which is quite situational, and predictable, seeing as every Honchkrow uses it) and STAB on Pursuit (which is alright, I guess). Overall, Staraptor beats Honchkrow in nearly every way.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking as well. It seems that when choosing between different pokemon, you have to go by what their stats and moves are.
