Soft reseting

I believe it is when you press the L, R, start, and select buttons all at once. Doing so will reset the game. I do believe turning the DS off and on again will accomplish the same thing, but this way is more convenient.

When used in the context of "Soft Resetting for a legendary", it means that someone is saving, catching a legendary, checking the IVs, and then soft resetting to try again if they aren't good.

I was wondering about it in terms of getting legends with prefered natures/Ivs

That's what it means. When you soft reset, you don't necessarily push the Power button to turn the DS off and then push it again to turn it back on; rather you just push the combination of buttons that will restart the game instead of having to go through the DS "please touch here" screen. It makes doing things such as trying to get correct IVs, shiny Pokemon, and catching legendaries much easier.
